"We're looking for Miss Evelyn Davis."

My heart stops.

James wraps his arm around me protectively.

Sophia looks at me, an expression of horror on her face.

My parents turn to look at me, the officials show no emotion.

Me.

I was selected.

Me of all people.

Of all 6 billion I am one of 3,000.

I slowly lower myself to the ground, still in shock.

"What is it?" Lily asks.

Nobody answers her.

My head spins.

My parents make their way over to the three of us on the stairs.

"Oh, sweetie," my mom says, wrapping me in a hug.

"You have 8 minutes," the official says coldly.

"Sophia, would you go get her bag? It's under her bed." My mom says.

Sophia nods and leaps up the stairs.

My dad leads me down and we sit on the couch.

Sophia returns and hands the bag to an official before joining us in the living room.

"I don't want to go," I whisper.

"I know honey, I know," my mom says as she rubs my back.

Lily has caught on that we are all sad, so she begins to cry.

After that we all cry, even James and my dad.

I give each person a big hug. I try to preserve the feel of each hug, each person's feel and even smell.

We sit in silence the rest of the time, just embracing each other.

All of us are crying.

"It's time to go," the officials say.

I cling to my dad, I feel safe in his arms.

"It's time to go," they repeat.

I don't let go. "I don't want to go."

"Miss Davis, it's time to go."

I turn towards the officials with a glare.
"I don't want to go. Give my spot to someone else!"

"That is impossible. You have been selected, you will go."

I squeeze my eyes shut and my dad and James pull me close.

A pair of cold, strong hands grab my arms and pry me off of my father.

"No!" I kick and scream. "I don't want to go!"

My family and Sophia leap up.

Lily runs to me, finally comprehending what is happening.

She gives me a big hug, pressing her small face into my stomach. I stroke her hair.

"Be good," I tell her. "I love you, Lily."

She nods before my mom gently pulls her away.

"I love you!" I shout to my crying family as I am pulled out the door. "Don't forget me!"

"Never." Dad says. "Never in 5 million years."

Then he breaks out into full on sobs.

My family watches as I am pulled out of the house and through the dusty yard and into a polished black vehicle.

"Goodbye! I love you!" I shout.

"I love you too!" Everyone shouts at once.

Then the door is shut and I am pulled away from my home, family, and best friend.

The disappear into the dust behind us.

That was the last time I'll ever see them.

This chapter was really hard to write emotionally, so sorry if it's too short.

Oh my gosh it would be so hard to go through that.

Wow.

Sorry I'm still reeling.

Tell me what you think and don't forget to vote!

Love,
Emma
