"Where's December?"
Ann looked at Smiley quizzically, her eyes glittering under the harsh overhead lights. They didn't really illuminate the place too well. It was borderline visible in the main hall. Smiley was struggling to see the body he worked on the operation table as she spoke.
"She should be in her barrack, no?" he suggested. Ann nodded. "I was going to ask if she wanted to check out the maps for some junkyards," she said. "Maybe she'd want some more 'homey' stuff. Oh, and clothes."
"We're lucky she's lasted us this long," he mumbled. "At least she's not sneaking out. Then we're fucked."
Ann's mouth slanted. "Yeah. I just feel bad. She's human. She isn't supposed to be here."
Smiley's expression flattened. "Oh, we'll make sure she will be."
