I let out a thankful sigh as the last bell of school rang.It was finally summer. It was finally time to be free. Everyone in class gathered their things and quickly rushed out of Quincy Adams Highschool. As I gathered my things to leave, I came to the realization that I'd have to go home to my parents. The plan for most kids. is, turn 18, get an apartment with your best friend, and be successful. What most kids fail to realize is, You have to finish school. So here I was. I'm just turning 19 and I'm just getting out of school. Everyone was already in their convertables and punch buggies, peeling off. People were blasting music from portable speakers and chatting away about the summer parties to come. I rolled my eyes at them. My summer would mainly be searching for jobs and searching for my new favorite book. What better way to spend your time?
Suddenly, my best friend Bridget bursted through the door. She was in tan shorts, a orange and white striped tank top, and had her signature shades on.
"Mexico!!!" she yelled, throwing her hands in the air.
I rolled my eyes at her and pushed past her. She stomped after me noisily in her flip flops. I turned to look at her with my arms crossed.
"Bridgett...sweet Bridgett. We are NOT going to Mexico. How ,any times do I have to say that?" I exclaimed.
"Tori! Why not?!" she pouted, crossing her arms too.
"Because, there's thugs, cons, fast women, and trouble around every corner!" I responded.
Bridget dramatically flipped her long, straight auburn hair over her shoulder. "So? That's everywhere. There is also beaches, sun, good food, parties, and boys!" She waggled her eyebrows at the last word.
I just rolled my eyes and tweaked her button nose. She crinkled her nose and all of her freckles shifted around her heart shaped face. Sometimes I envied Bridget. She was the perfect girl! She had a perfect tan, long auburn hair, chocolate eyes, and the cutest freckles were dotted just around her button nose. She had the best puppy dog face too. No one could resist that heart shaped face.
I held up my hand for her to stop. "Before you even say it, you are NOT hooking me up with anyone this summer."
"Ugh! You are such a party pooper! First Mexico, now your love life? Why won't you let me control you, you meanie?!" she sniffed.
I just laughed at her childish ways and headed towards my car. Now don't laugh but, I drive a yellow Punch Buggy. The car suits me and they're honestly not as bad as people make them out to be. Bridget followed after me, struggling to keep up with my long legs. We finally got to my car and she hopped in, throwing her stuf fon the back. We rode in silence to our usual frozen yogurt place, Moo Moo's.
"You're gonna end up alone..." she mumbled.
I stopped at s red light, already dreading traffic. "What?"
"I SAID, that you're going to end up alone. You never go out! Anytime a guy likes you, you always push them away!" she said exasperated.
" No guys even like me!" I exclaimed, turning towards her.
"That's not true at all! Tyler Monroe, Jake Seems, Landon White, Jamal West..." she listed. I was getting very mad.
"Bridget just stop! People don't always have to be in a relationship to be happy! In fact, people are more stressed WHEN they're in relationships! That's what's wrong with society today!" I said.
Bridget huffed. "There you go again with the whole society thing! Maybe it's not society...maybe it's just you! Society isn't afraid to take a chance! Society isn't afraid to let a guy take them out every other night!" she yelled, throwing her hands in the air. Why was this light so long?
I couldn't take it anymore. "Why should I let guys take me out every night? You date enough for both of us!" I yelled back.
Bridget opened her mouth then closed it again. We just stared at each other in stale silence. A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"Bridget...you know I didn't mean that." I stuttered.
Bridget shook her head and unfastened her seat belt. "No, you did. You wouldn't have said it if you didn't. I'm sorry we can't all be as content as you. Have a nice summer, Tori." and with that, she got her things and got out of the car.
I called her name out of my window, but she ignored me. She just walked down the sidewalk with her things in hand. I tried driving next to her, to talk some sense into her. I finally gave up when she threw her shoe at me. I told her to call me and that I was really sorry. She didn't do anything but walk so I just drove away in silence.
