THE CAR RIDE was awkward.

They had exited the plane after hours of flying and Shaun had told them he thought he had an idea of where his sister was. They had crowded into a taxi and Shaun had instructed the driver in Mandarin.

Katy had wedged herself in between the silent couple, eyeing them nervously as a child would when their parents were fighting. Mina appreciated it, her anger at her boyfriend had not subdued even after a restless airplane nap and she still felt like ripping someone's throat out.

Shaun glanced at her, seeing her watching the lights of the city whizz by through the car window. He threw all caution to the wind and leaned over Katy, tapping Mina's crossed arms.

She didn't make any sign that she noticed him and he tapped her again, frustration and worry both washing over him. When she continued to ignore him, he sighed and leaned back, defeated.

"Are you gonna keep ignoring me?" He suddenly asked, annoyed at her petty silent treatment.

"Yep." She said very briefly, not expanding on her answer.

"You're still mad at me?"

"Yep."

"And you're not even gonna tell me why?"

"Nope."

"So we're fighting right now? This is you fighting?"

"Yep."

He rolled his eyes, throwing his hands up and then crossed them too, staring out the window in stony silence.

Katy looked between the two worriedly, opening her mouth to say something before she thought twice about it and decided to keep it to herself. She sighed, clasping her hands over her knees and sitting in the uncomfortable silence the bickering couple had created.

Mina stewed in contained anger until the cab suddenly stopped and Shaun paid him, opening the door and getting out. She followed suit, wanting to slam the door shut but she respectfully and carefully closed it, hating that the petty thought had crossed her mind.

She looked up at the huge building they were walking towards, it was nothing compared to the skyscrapers in New York but she had spent the last 5 years in California. She supposed her senses were dulled to tall towers.

They entered the building and Shaun led them into a rickety metal elevator, occupied by a tall, skinny man wearing all black. Mina eyed him suspiciously, as he closed the gate behind them and the elevator rose.

He held a clipboard out to Shaun, who briefly looked down at it and then up at the man, who handed him a pen.

"在这里登录进入." The strange man said and Mina looked at Shaun, wanting to know what he had said but not wanting to break her angry silence just yet.
