On a bright sunny day, the warm rays of the sun cast a serene glow over the village. Birds chirped melodiously, their sweet songs filling the air as trees swayed gently in the breeze. The atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, with only the occasional murmur of villagers going about their daily business. Children laughed and played, their carefree joy infectious, while parents and merchants engaged in lively haggling over goods at the small market. The scent of fresh produce and baked goods wafted through the air, enticing passersby to stop and sample the local delights.
But amidst this idyllic scene, a sudden commotion erupted. "WHY YOU GET BACK HERE YOU EVIL CHILD!" a well built, old man bellowed, his wrinkled face red with rage. He chased after a young girl with unruly, green locks that cascaded down her back like a tangled waterfall.
The girl, seemingly unfazed by the old man's ire, turned her head to taunt him, her bright green eyes sparkling with mischief. "HAHA COME GET ME OLD MAN!" she cackled, sticking out her tongue in a defiant gesture. This only served to enrage the old man further, his face purpling with indignation.
Unfortunate for the young girl, she failed to notice the food stall in front of her, and her reckless dash led her to slam into it with a loud crash. The impact sent colorful arrays of fruits and vegetables tumbling to the ground, rolling in all directions. Behind the stall stood a lady in her thirties, was working at.
"Oh my... she's at it again, huh Roujin?" The lady in her thirties, Mei, sighed, shaking her head as she surveyed the mess the girl had made of her food stall. "Damn child just won't listen, I don't even know what to do with her anymore."
The green-haired girl, still struggling against the old man's grip, shot back, "THEN JUST LET ME GO, OLD MAN! I DIDN'T ASK YOU TO BABYSIT ME AROUND!" Her voice rose, and she kicked out at the old man's shins, but he held firm.
"OH SHUT IT, YOU LITTLE SCALLYWAG! I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS EITHER," the old man bellowed, his face reddening further. The two continued to yell at each other, their voices growing louder and more heated by the second.
As they argued, the people walking by began to slow, their curiosity piqued by the commotion. They stopped to watch the spectacle, their faces filled with a mix of amusement and concern. The whispers started, spreading like wildfire through the gathered crowd, as they started to whisper to one another.
"Hey, isn't that Roujin and F/n?" someone whispered, nodding towards the duo.
"Yeah, they always cause a commotion all the time!" another villager chimed in, shaking their head. "It's that F/n who starts everything. She should be grateful someone like Roujin is taking care of her!"
"Roujin is only taking care of her because he was good friends with F/n's parents, mostly her dad, right?" a third person added, their voice laced with gossip.
F/n's ears burned as she heard the whispers, her anger boiling over. She stopped arguing with Roujin and turned to face the villagers, her eyes blazing. "WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT, HUH? GO STICK YOUR NOSE SOMEWHERE ELSE, YO-MHM MHG!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the market.
Roujin swiftly picked her up by the back of her collar and clamped a hand over her mouth. "Alright, alright, enough! Sorry about the commotion, everyone. Now, go back to what you all were doing." The villagers scurried away, eager to escape the drama.
As the crowd dispersed, F/n's brows twitched in frustration. She bit into Roujin's hand, causing him to yelp in pain. He let go of her, and she plopped onto the floor and quickly stood up.
"I don't need your help, old man!" F/n crossed her arms, her eyes flashing with defiance, as she began to walk back from where she had run from. Roujin grunted and followed behind, his eyes fixed on her back.
A few minutes passed, and the two arrived at a small house, nestled among the trees, far from the village. F/n slammed the door open and walked in, her footsteps echoing through the quiet space. "Hey! We're not done with training, missy! You're going to work even harder after pulling that stunt you did back there."
F/n ignored him, plopping down on a pillow near a coffee table, her legs and arms crossed in a stubborn pose. "Did you hear me? I said-"
"YEA, I HEARD YOU, OLD MAN! I'm too tired now, maybe tomorrow..." she trailed off, her eyes fixed on some point beyond Roujin's shoulder.
Roujin grunted, closing the door behind him, and sat down next to F/n, his eyes turning to her with a serious gaze. "Look, kid, your father didn't just hand you over to me just to lay back and cause trouble. He handed you over so you could be trained by the best and become the best, to protect this village just like he did, and take my place. I'm getting too old to protect this village.
F/n pauses from her sitting position to look around the small home, taking in the humble abode. The hut had two rooms, with a shared bathroom located outside, consisting of a toilet and shower separated by a curtain for privacy. The living room, where she sat, was connected to a small kitchen, with a wooden table and two chairs. Behind her, a narrow hall led to the two rooms, facing each other. The walls were made of natural materials, and the thatched roof above seemed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings.
She turns to Roujin, her gaze piercing. "Yea, well, it's not like he had much of a choice, did he... anyway, why would I want to protect a village that wants nothing to do with me." Roujin's face twists in anger, and he smacks F/n on the head, making her wince. "WELL, YOU'RE ALWAYS CAUSING TROUBLE IN THE VILLAGE! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!" he thunders, his voice echoing off the walls.
F/n rubs her head, a bump starting to form. "Damn it, old man, that hurts!"
