Who knew how dreadful it could be to be grounded on a Saturday?
I started to make a list of things to do without breaking any rules.
-jumprope
-coloring
-reading
-stickerfying things
-organize bookbag
-doodle
-write in my diary
-get rid of clothes
-braid my hair
-put things in my purse
-try on lipsticks
-model outfits
-practice cursive
-draw Smiley faces
Everything that I could think of that did not involve a phone, TV, or going out of the house to do something involving fun.
I guess my mom was not used to me being so quiet, because she walked into my room and asked me if I was okay. Then we talked about what she used to do when she had no electronics. It included things like climbing fences, tic-tac-toe, making up dances, picking flowers, swimming in lakes, etc. I considered two things:
-making up dances
-tic-tac-toe
Then, at 1 o' clock, I decided to do everything... with Marina! I thought of what a good idea it would be to do something with my best friend! I asked my mom (in a very exagerated desperate voice) if she could come and my mom felt bad so she said yes!
She called Marina's mom and 10 minutes later (Marina lives a few blocks away from the super market that I shop at that is really close to my house) she arrived wearing a cute new headband and a charm bracelet. Her mom stayed downstairs with my mom talking 'mom language' while we went up to my room and I told her the rules of being grounded and I showed her my list.
After doing everything on the list I told Marina, "Why not get a popsicle?" After agreeing, I walked up to my mom and shyly asked," Mom, can we go down the block to the popsicle store?" Then she told me," I am sorry, but you can not go, you are grounded. But there is popsicles in the fridge!" She winked at me and then I realized that Marina's mom had been sitting right next to my mom, watching. WATCHING EVERYTHING! How humilliating?
We both ate 2 popsicles and at 7, Marina left with a really achey stomach. When I crawled into my bed feeling a lot better about being grounded! My mom came in and kissed me on my forehead and I closed my eyes happily, but I had no idea what I was about to find out the following Monday...
