After spending the last two months with Rengoku, you had gotten used to having him in your life. You smiled to yourself as you thought about his smile and his warmth. Your heart fluttered as you realized how much he meant to you and how happy you were to have him in your life. For the first time in a while, things were looking up. However, there was a sense of something, something in the air. As you walked home from your college, you know, the blood-orange sunset and noticed one crow flying past the horizon, there was a sense of tension in the air. The was this feeling, a gut feeling that something wasn't right. You didn't know what it was, but you had more important things to focus on and more important things to do. In less than two weeks, Rengoku's birthday was coming, and you wanted to celebrate his birthday, but you could not find the perfect gift for him.
'What am I going to do....his birthday is less than two weeks away....' you thought to yourself. Suddenly you remember something your late grandmother told you when you were a little girl. She said that crows were omens and were signs of something wrong or good happening. You stopped as you glanced back at the crow you had seen flying past. Was it an omen of something bad to come?
You shook your head, trying to shake away the thought. Indeed, it was just a coincidence. You returned home, determined to find the perfect gift for Rengoku. When you got home, you smelled something nice coming from the kitchen, and when you stepped inside, you found Rengoku standing in front of the stove cooking something. Then, when he noticed you, he greeted you warmly, smiling brightly.
"Welcome home!" He exclaimed happily.
"Hi, Rengoku," you murmured shyly, giving him a tight hug.
He hugged you tenderly and said," I thought I'd make something special for you for dinner. I hope you like it."
You felt touched by his gesture and thanked him. You knew then what you wanted to get him for his birthday.
You decided to give him a gift that he would cherish forever, something he could always keep with him. You went to the store, and after some searching, you found the perfect gift. It was a pendant in the shape of glass blown small flame. You saw it. You engrave the kanji "Be strong" and the date of Rengoku's birthday on the back of the pendant.
When the day of his birthday finally came, you presented him with the gift. He smiled as he opened it, and his eyes widened in surprise. He looked up at you with a smile and said," Thank you. I will always treasure this."
Rengoku kissed you on the side of your cheek as you blushed, feeling a warmth spreading through your body. You couldn't help but feel grateful for having someone like him in your life. As the night went on, you enjoyed a lovely dinner together, laughing and talking about anything and everything. You were happy to see Rengoku enjoying his birthday and even more so to be able to share it with him.
After dinner, you sat on the couch, cuddled up next to each other. As you talked, Rengoku suddenly leaned in and kissed you deeply. As the kiss deepened, his hands cupped your face. You responded eagerly, feeling your heart race as his lips moved with yours. The warmth of his body against yours made you feel safe and loved.
Finally, you pulled away, panting slightly. Rengoku grinned at you, his eyes shining with affection.
"I'm so glad you liked your gift," you whispered, feeling your cheeks flush.
"I love it," he replied, leaning in to give you another quick kiss. "But you know what I love even more?"
"What?" you asked, smiling.
"You," he said, taking your hand in his. "I love you so much."You felt a lump form in your throat at his words. You knew that you loved him too, more than anything in the world. Without hesitation, you leaned in and kissed him again, feeling your heart swell with happiness.
The rest of the night was wrapped up in each other's arms, whispering and laughing. As you drifted off to sleep, feeling Rengoku's warmth next to you, you knew you had found something extraordinary. And no matter what the future holds, you were grateful for this moment of happiness and love.
The following day, you woke up to find Rengoku gazing at you with a soft smile. His fingers tenderly brushed a strand of hair off your cheek before he leaned in to kiss you again."You look beautiful," he murmured against your lips.
You felt yourself blush at his words, feeling grateful and loved again. "Thank you," you whispered back, feeling your heart race excitedly.
As you both got up and prepared for the day, you couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. You knew that whatever the day brought, you had each other. And that was indeed all that mattered.
You thought to yourself. 'It's like a tranquil dream...but I feel like the wheels of fate are rolling. There a sense that something is going to happen...'
But you pushed the feeling aside, not wanting to ruin the moment. Instead, you focused on enjoying your time with Rengoku, cherishing every moment you spent together.
But as days passed, you couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen, like a nagging sensation in the back of your mind was screaming at you. You looked out the window from your classes to see that storm clouds were brewing.
There was a sense that things were changing fast; the words from mind echo months ago came back reechoing in mind, 'Why must faith be so cruel to him? If I could change it, I would in a heartbeat; I wish I could change fate and faith itself.'
A pit in your stomach grew as you remembered your promise to yourself, and the words from your late grandmother echoed in your mind, 'Fate is not something for others to decide. One must carve it by hand, and it can be changed.'
'No matter what happens, I will change his fate. I won't let Rengoku die again...' you thought to yourself. With a newfound determination, you would make sure that he won't die, that he comes back to his world, you go with him even if it means that you cannot come to your world. You were determined to change the wheels of fate, no matter what happened. You wanted to make sure you wanted to be with Rengoku forever.
(Note: This is happy early birthday to Rengoku. I couldn't publish on his birthday because I will traveling on that day! But happy early birthday to him. It was published on May 8,2023, two days before his birthday.)
(Additional note: Today is May 10,2023 a few hours before my flight leaves, that was my reason for publishing the chapter a few days ago because I will be leaving soon but I want to say happy birthday to him. So happy birthday to him.)
