“Daddy! Daddy! This is my dream job!” my youngest son showed his drawing to his father. I took glance at the drawing and found out that his dream job is to become a fireman in the future.
“that’s great, baby. You wanna save people from fire, don’t you?” my husband asked him. My son also nodded as if he agreed to his dad.
“how about you Szchye (Zaykie) ? what’s your dream job in the near future?” Marco looked at my eldest daughter, btw Marco is my husband.
“someday, I wanna be an architect. I want to build houses and buildings soon daddy.” Her response to Marco. She’s pretty confident and serious about the profession she have chosen.
“don’t you wanna be like your mother?” my husband genuinely asked her. Szchye’s face expression changed. She looks like quite disappointed to his father’s question.
“No dad! I don’t wanna be like mom soon. I don’t want to be just a simple housewife with no extra work. I hate that!” her words broke my heart. Am I just a dumb housewife? Have I taught my children this kind of attitude? I’ve made my very best to be “the best” in there eyes yet they will give me this as exchange? I can’t accept that!
The next day, they are all worried with the chores. I’m currently sitting in our sofa, in our living room and I didn’t let anyone bother me watching a drama.
“Honey, our baby’s diaper is smelling, what should I do?” my husband’s complain to me.
“you can clean it yourself, you don’t need my help after all.” My scold response to him.
“mom! I’m already hungry, can you cook breakfast for me?” Szchye is asking for help.
“you can cook! You’re grown up already. Stop being so childish.” My irritated answer to her.
“hon, our house is so dirty. You’re supposed to clean it all, right?” Marco complained again.
“have your mom taught you how to clean? You can clean it!” I shouted to him.
Later that day, it is already 9 o’clock in the evening and the whole day, I didn’t do any chores. I want them to experience about how hard and complicated my life is.
I did the same thing as the days passed by. A week after, I was about to say them the heartache I was bearing. I’m walking upstairs to check if Szchye has slept already and found out that she just took a nap on her study table. I was to wake her up but I saw a note in her table, it’s her diary so I read it. I know it’s confidential but she’s my daughter. It says,
“last week, I told dad about my dream job and said that I want to be an architect in the future. He asked me if I want to be like mom but I refuse and said that I hate her works instead. I realized by now that I created a mistake. I’ve noticed mom’s chores day by day and observe how she do the house works. She let me experience those and I can truly say they are complicated. I don’t know how to wash dishes, clean our house, do the clothes and the other chores because mom stood up and let me study for I wanna become an architect. i want to be like mom. Mom is the best woman I have ever encountered in my whole life. She’s the best for me.” I read her letter and didn’t notice that my tears are already falling onto her shoulders, she noticed it and asked me.
“mom, why are you here?” her question but I didn’t answer it instead I hugged her so tightly.
“thank you for appreciating me, Szchye. I know you think I am just a dumb mother for you who does the household chores but as I read your message, my heart has reached it’s warmth. I’m very glad I had a daughter like you. I love you, honey.” my heartwarming words to Szchye as I hugged her.
