"Stay still you're going to make me mess up the painting." She smiles moving away from my attempt to kiss her."I doubt you can mess up anything, my Nova is amazing." I smile pinching her cheek.
"You say that then watch your face come out looking like a lump of dirt." She smirks.
"Okay I'll be still but I want my kiss later." I say going back to the spot she made me sit at for the past two hours.
"I know," She shakes her head with a smile,
"Okay, I'm done tell me what you think."
I walk over to the painting and it's a realist copy of my face she put silver crowning on the top of my head that had flower designs on it. The back ground color a vibrant blue I looked almost like a greek god. She was better than I thought.
"This is really good, I'm going to hang it up so everyone can see it when they walk in. I say taking a picture.
"Thank you, what are you taking pictures for?"
"I'm sending this to my friends to brag about how amazing you are." I smile typing on my phone.
"You're obsessed."she says jokingly
"I'm more than obsessed." I smile kissing her on the cheek.
"Your lawyer's here let's go," an officer bangs on the cell bringing me back to reality.
I slowly get up and aimlessly follow the officer. Even in my moments of great despair all I could think about was her. Her voice, her smell, her hair. Everything about her was engraved in my brain like some type of coding.
"I walk into a small interviewing room it had three beige chairs set around a square table . The buzzing of the dimly lit light above filled my ears. Everything seemed to be blocked out I couldn't hear anything but that.
In one of the chairs sat a buff, middle aged, light skinned man with a cleanly shaved head. He was moving his mouth to speak but I couldn't hear anything, only the buzzing.
"Hello?"He snaps his fingers in front of me and the sound quickly goes quite, almost as if it was never there.
"Hello," I say dryly.
"Like I said, I'm Greg Martinez I'm going to be your lawyer for the trial."
"Martinez..are you related to Giovanni Martinez?" I ask remembering his last name.
"That's my son." He nods with a proud smile of a father.
"Did he send you here for me?"
"No actually it was Nova," He smiles.
Even though I had no family right now she was here for me. I hope she's okay, if it wasn't for me she wouldn't be so stressed. If I don't beat this I don't even want to imagine what she'll look like, how she'll react.
"I'm going to do everything in my power to prove your innocence but in order to do that you must tell me everything in detail. I also would prefer it be truthful, I'm your lawyer I won't do anything to sabotage you because in turn I would doing the same to myself." He says with a reassuring tone.
"An investigator will come in here in a few minutes to ask you a couple questions you don't have to answer them if you're not comfortable but after that is just me and you."
I nod taking in his words although his appearance was tough he seemed to be a nice person. The door opens to a dark-skinned man with a bushy grayed beard and tired eyes. He was the same man that was at Nova's houses. He nods at Greg then looks at me in disappointment.
"I hoped I wouldn't have to see you here." he frowns taking a seat in the middle chair.
"I was hoping the same thing." I smile teasingly.
"I'll get to the point I only have a few questions since you already gave me a statement which doesn't seem to be true giving the evidence I've gathered."
"Maybe your evidence is bogus." I shrug.
"Well you wouldn't be here if It was." He smiles passively pulling out his tape recorder.
It took 4 hours of me repeatedly denying the assumptions about the murder for him give up. It was obvious that he was trying to get a confession out of me that I didn't have to give.
When he leaves I let a sigh of exhaustion laying my head on the wall. That man had one more time to keep asking the same question before I snapped.
"Now that's it's just me and you how about you tell me everything."
"Where do you want me to start?" I nod slowly.
"How about from the very beginning how did you meet Amir?"
He didn't know it yet but we were going to be here all night as I explained to him my side of the story. The worry for Nova overweighted my exhaustion so how ever long it took I was fine with it.
I told him everything from how we meet to what he did before he died trying not to leaving anything out.
"Thank you for sharing." He says writing everything I said down.
"That's it?"
"Yep, Your arrangement is tomorrow morning and that is when the Judge reads you your rights and tells you what you been charged with. This is very important because this is when you state your plea. Don't worry about anything else just try to get some rest you've been in here for over 12 hours. I'll see you tomorrow." He says standing up giving me a hand shake.
I nod as he leaves, the officer coming to take me back to my cell leaving me in a dark and cold environment. It called for one thing which was sleep but I couldn't seem to get any, every time I closed my eyes the image of Nova crying so helplessly appeared making my skin crawl and my heart burn with longing.
