You and your sister, Robin had just recently started working at SCOOPS AHOY ice cream shop at the newly built STARCOURT MALL, although you had only just turned 14 years old, but your family were poor and needed as much money as they could get, plus it got you out the house for a while.

You were sat on the counter whilst Robin served customers. A group of kids-which were instantly recognisable from the amount of times they had visited lately-came rushing up to the counter. You had gotten all of their names known, but one especially, Max, she was your favourite even though you've never spoken to her. She was in your history class at school and you have always thought that she was incredibly pretty.

The tall one at the front, Mike you think his name is, rang the bell multiple times before you shouted "Hey, dingus, your children are here!"
"Again, seriously?" Steve opened the window that lead to the room behind the counter and Mike rang the the bell once more. He gave in and let the group of teenagers through to sneak into the movie The Day of The Dead and you overheard Steve telling them "Hey! If anyone finds out about this-"
"We're dead!" They finished in unison. This made you let out a small laugh.

You got off from on the counter and instead leaned against the near wall next to the window. "Ugh he's such a mom." Robin rolled her eyes with a smile and her arms crossed, facing you. You giggled while mirroring her actions. "Yeah, such a mom." Robin laughed and turned back around to continue serving customers.

After around a minute of working, all the lights suddenly went out, making mutters of confusion echo around the mall. "Huh, that's weird." Steve said as he went over to the light switch and kept flicking it on and off. Robin and you looked at each other, confused before Robin announced "That isn't gonna work, dingus"
"Oh, really?" Steve flicked the light switch faster when suddenly the lights turned back on, both you and Robin unconvinced that it was Steve's doing.
"Let there be light"

It was Steve's turn to scoop and you and Robin had this little thing going on the white board in the back. There were two columns, one with the title 'you rule' and the other titled 'you suck' which so far had 5 tally marks underneath it. You both watched the amusing scene playing in-front of you. "Alright, one scoop of chocolate, that's a buck twenty-five, anything else?"
"Ooh, Purdue" the girl replied
"Fancy" you and Robin tried to hide your laughter, Steve still trying to hit on the girl. "Yeah, you know, I considered it, Purdue, but then I was like, you know what? I really think I need some
real-life experience, you know, before I hit college,
see what it feels like. Kinda like, uh, I don't know, see what it's like to earn a working-man's wage, you know? Uh..."
"Ohh, I'm sorry"
"I think that's, like, really important"
"Yeah,totally" the girl agreed
"We should kind of like,
you know, I don't know, maybe hang out this weekend or..." and here is we're the magic happens, sort of. "Oh, sorry about that, uh" the girl tried to make up an excuse. "I don't know, maybe next weekend or.."
"Yeah I'm busy"
"Oh, that's cool, I'm working here next weekend anyway,so the following weekend's better for me"
"No. I'm sorry I can't"
"I- this is my first day here" Steve tried to play it off as the girl walked away and me and Robin appeared at the window.

"And another one bites the dust, you are oh-for-six Popeye" Robin put another tally mark under the 'you suck' column.
"Yeah, I can count."
"You know that means you suck, right?" You said, your finger underlining the words 'you suck'.
"Yep, I can read too"
"Since, when?" Robin sarcastically asked.
Steve rolled his eyes "it's this stupid hat, i am telling you, it is totally blowing my best feature"
"Yeah, company policy is a real drag" you spoke, putting your elbow on the window sill, your chin on your hand. "You know, it's a crazy idea, but have you ever considered...telling the truth?" Robin repeated your action as she explained.

"Oh, you mean, that I couldn't even get into Tech and my douchebag dad's trying to teach me a lesson, I make three bucks an hour, and I have no future? That truth?"
"Hey twelve o'clock" Robin noticed a group of girls walk up to the counter.
"Oh shit, oh shit, okay uh , I'm going in, and you know what? Screw company policy" He threw his hat away. "Oh my god, your a whole new man" Robin replied sarcastically. "Right, oooh Ahoy, ladies! Didn't see you there. Would you guys like to set sail
on this ocean of flavor with me? I'll be your captain.
I'm Steve Harrington."
"Oh god" one of the girls mumbled. You and Robin shared a look then she handed you the marker and you put down another tally under 'you suck'
"Can I get you guys a little taste of the Cherries Jubilee? No? Anybody? Banana Boat? Four people, four spoons? Share it in the booth? Anybody? It's hot out there."
