"You couldn't have landed us in the water?" commented Sam in pain.
Rose replied, "I can't believe it worked. I didn't think we'd actually get anywhere."
"Do you see Alex or Peter?"
"No. Did we pass them? I wasn't paying attention."
"I saw them but they disappeared again. They can't be too far one way or another."
"Which way are your instincts telling us to go?" asked Rose as she sat up slowly due to the pain.
"I'm not sure." Sam tried to stretch away the pain.
"Which is worse: waiting here and it turns out that they passed us or going in the wrong direction?"
"Any chance your own instincts are telling you something?"
"I'm not good at reading mine. Also, I prefer the idea of staying here out of laziness."
Sam responded, "I could use the small break. I hurt my butt. If we don't see them in a minute, they passed us."
The two of them lay on the golden sand using broken parts of the thin boat as pillows and stared at the dark sky. Less than a minute later, they saw people above them.
"ALEX!" shouted Sam.

That time, Alex heard her. She focused on the beach and realized that two of the shapes were people. Since she heard her name, Alex assumed that one of them was someone whom she knew. She lowered herself and Peter to the ground beside the figures which were Rose and Sam. When they landed, Sam ran up to Alex and hugged her. Then, she hugged Peter. Then, she went back to Alex and kissed her.
Sam said, "Ok, I'm done."
"Any sign of Gwen or Liz from you two?" asked Alex.
Sam answered, "No but we should find them here. We came from the forest over there and we saw you coming from elsewhere."
"How did you get here?" asked Peter.
Sam responded, "A canoe. It's a little spread out right now. We tried getting your attention on the water. Now that we're together, we should follow the coast to search for Gwen and Liz."
Alex replied, "Sounds good."
The others agreed with Sam's idea.
Rose said, "Hold on, I want to drink before we leave." She headed towards the stream of water.
Following her, Peter added, "Me too."
"Don't drink that!" half-shouted Sam.
Rose replied, "Why not? I'm really thirsty."
Sam answered, "It could do more harm than good."
Alex added, "She's right. You shouldn't risk it."
Peter and Rose listened and rejoined them. The four of them moved along the coast in the same general direction that Rose and Sam had rowed. They ran at a slow pace because Rose didn't have the energy to run faster.

After ten minutes, all they had seen was sand and water from the watercourse with the exception of several canoes. Suddenly, they heard a scream coming from their left.
"Liz!" yelled Peter.
He ran quickly in the direction of the scream. The others followed him. Rose lagged behind but tried to keep the others in view.

A little while later, in the short distance ahead of them was a water fountain. Alex, Peter and Sam stopped to stare at it puzzled while Rose caught up to them.
"Where's Liz? There's nothing here! I know it was her!" shouted Peter frustrated. He sprinted to the fountain looking for a sign of Liz.
"Do you think this water is safe?" asked Rose hoping that no one would stop her.
Sam replied, "Maybe. It's odd it's out here."
They approached the fountain. At one point, Rose became distracted and lost interest in the water. She extended her arms in front of her and spread out her fingers as if she were trying to touch something that she couldn't see.

Inside the pocket reality, Gwen and Liz saw the others nearing the water fountain. Gwen walked to an edge of the room with a view of the exterior and placed herself in front of Rose to warn her and the others telepathically. The golem stood at the opposite side waiting for its next order from its master. It stood beside another one-way view of the desert.
- Don't touch the fountain. It's a trap!
Gwen didn't hear a response. She put up her hands to match Rose's thinking that it would help her signal go through.
When Rose moved her hands, Gwen copied her and thought - Stop moving your hands!
Rose stopped moving.
"Now, golem!" said the creator of the pocket reality.
As the creature reached out to snatch Sam, a powerful two-second vibration sound hit all of their ears followed by a popping sound. The golem vanished along with the room. Alex, Peter and Sam held their hands to their ears while Gwen and Liz reappeared in the desert with the man that had taken them.
The man fell to his knees and mumbled anxiously, "What! What happened? How is this possible?"
Alex, Peter and Sam stopped covering their ears when they realized that the sound was gone.
"What's going on?" asked Sam half-curious and half-angry because she suspected that the man had hurt Gwen.
Liz explained casually, "He kidnapped us. The fountain was a trap. He wanted to use us to get to you. He's no longer a threat now. Without his monster or pocket reality, he has no power. Right?!" Liz gave the golem-creator a stern look.
The man answered, "Yes. Absolutely. Please, spare me. I am not a threat to you in any way anymore."
Liz added, "He only wanted to survive. Looking at him now, I pity him. We can leave him without a worry."
Sam was still upset but she didn't want to seriously harm the man either if he was harmless. "Are you sure?"
Gwen responded, "Even though his plan was to kill us, he didn't hurt us. I doubt he'll attack us when we're together so I agree with Liz."
Releasing some of her anger, Sam said, "Ok."
