"Birdy!" Val's yell is muffled, coming from downstairs. I guess Finch is here.
Sure enough, my little brother is talking excitedly with Val. He's probably happy he's finally allowed to stay with us without the parents having to be here. I'm honestly surprised they let him drive down on his own. After having him away from home for hockey, I'm shocked they even let him out of their sights. Must suck empty nesting before you even need to.
He salutes me when he sees me. "Scout."
"Finch." I mirror the salute. "Did you grow?"
"Nah," he says. "You shrunk."

"Dad is so right about you being a potty mouth."
Val laughs. "Where does he think she got it from?"
