Hannah was sat on the couch just watching TV whilst she waited her for her friend James to arrive. She had agreed to meet with him after school so that she could help him study for his upcoming math test. Hannah prided herself on her academic abilities and her very public skills quite often enticed people to seek her out in times of intellectual need.
Around 30 minutes had passed, and Hannah heard a knock at the door followed by a voice. She knew instantly that it was James. However, soon after James had spoke, another voice made its debut. It was quite a deep, masculine voice, but it was unfamiliar. She rose from her seated position and wandered towards the door, the silver lock making a rattling noise as she toyed with it. She pulled the door open, revealing two boys standing just outside the frame. One was a tall, blonde haired and blue eyed boy. He looked to be around maybe 5"10. He stood in front of the second boy, concealing the mystery boy's identity slightly. Even though it may seem like it, the positioning was not calculated or deliberate.
The second boy revealed himself in full. He stood taller than James, as he averaged around 6"1-6"2. He had an attractive brunette mullet, paired with the darkest brown eyes she'd ever seen; she could barely even make out his pupils. He was of white and Asian descent, and he seemed to hold quite a vacant expression. He wasn't smiling, but he wasn't frowning. Hannah shrugged it off; maybe he was just nervous to meet someone new. As she studied his face a little more, she soon came to realise who this boy was.
"Hannah, this is Cody. Cody this is Hannah." James gestured as he introduced the two. Hannah stood there, allowing a faint yet sincere smile form. "Hey. Yeah, I know who he is James." She laughed softly. "We may not be friends but I'm pretty sure I can tell who goes to my school.". James let out a slight chuckle, however, Cody's neutral expression didn't change whatsoever. Tough crowd. Hannah thought to herself. Even though he didn't speak or allow his expression to falter, he nodded at her in acknowledgment.
She was quick to invite the two boys in, and she guided them towards her loungeroom before scurrying off to grab drinks and snacks. She walked back in and placed the edible arrangement on the dark mahogany coffee table. James smiled and thanked her, and for the first time since he'd gotten there, Cody broke his silence. "Thanks, Eugenia." He announced, reaching towards a can of coke. The can hissed softly as he flipped up the tab and took a swig. "You know you don't have to call me Eugenia, right? I know it's hard to believe, but I do have a first name.". Hannah chuckled at her own comment. "Yeah, I know. And thanks, but no thanks." Cody retorted, taking a handful of chips.
"Someone's hungry." Hannah observed, looking to James with slight confusion. She had never seen someone eat so much upon first meeting her. "Yeah, he seshed before we came here. I know we agreed to study, but when I was driving here, I saw him walking on the side of the road with a bong in his hand." James explained, gesturing to Cody, who was still eating. So maybe that's why he was so quiet when he first got here.
Hannah nodded in understanding. She hated drugs and alcohol, but she understood that James couldn't just leave his friend stranded in public with some very illegal things in his possession. She didn't ask where the bong and it's substance were now; she knew James would never bring that sort of thing into her house. He had more respect for her than that. "We can still study though. Cody will be fine in here, and I am desperate to pass this test. Ms Connolly said that if I don't, she's going to exclude me from the agriculture program. If that happens I won't be able to get my apprenticeship with the family that lives on the farm.". Cody chimed in. Yeah, she's such a bitch. No wonder why her husband left her." He regarded firmly as he kept his gaze fixated on the TV.
Hannah agreed to this arrangement as she could see James' genuine desperation clearly in his ocean blue eyes. She told Cody that if he needed anything from either her or James, he could find them in the kitchen which was in the next room over. He seemed out of it, so he merely dismissed her reassurance. Hannah wasn't offended though.
The blonde duo made their way to Hannah's kitchen table, James pulling a few books and some stationery out of his bag as he sat down. Hannah did the same, except she retrieved her things from a bookshelf behind the kitchen table. As the two studied, they could still faintly hear the TV playing in the other room. It wasn't a bother to either of them, however they still kept an ear out just to ensure the intoxicated teen's safety.
