                                     Fateful meeting

I had been sitting up in the tree for a little while now, not even attempting to keep track of the minutes that went by.
God, I felt so pathetic.
There was a whole apocalypse out there, my family needed my help, and all I could bring myself to do was wait for my brother and cry, even though I knew deep down that he wouldn't be returning.

My chest rose with a deep breath and my cold hand wiped away the tears on my face, I still had another brother out there who might need my help.

As I began my attempts to force myself to calm down, the sound of fast footsteps followed by the front gate closing and locking echoed into my ears. When I looked down my eyes fell onto a good looking guy I recognized as the new rookie cop of the police department.

I had yet to formally meet him but since STARS worked closely with the police department, I'd seen him around. Especially with his reputation as the top cadet in the training unit.

He shot his pistol as the zombies from the yard started crowding him. My curious eyes watched the man shoot the ones in front of him, putting the monsters down quickly, until I spotted one sneak up behind him and thought of what had happened to Aaron.
Without a second thought I aimed and pulled the trigger.
The zombie behind him fell just as he finished off the ones in front of him.

The newbie cop turned in surprise, noticing the infected body on the ground. He looked around until he spotted me and jumped in surprise, pointing his gun at the branch I sat on.
“Hey..what are you doing up there?”

I hopped down from the tree and looked at him. “Saving you apparently. You're welcome.”
The dirty blonde man looked at me. “Right.. thanks.”

After a second of silence he held out his hand, introducing himself. “I'm Leon, Leon Kennedy.”
My hand hesitantly moved into his. “I know, you're a rookie. I've seen you before. You graduated top of your class at the police academy.”

As we released each other's hands he nodded slowly. “Yeah, and you're Ella right? Miles' little sister and the chief's daughter. Miles likes bragging about his baby sister being the youngest STARS officer.”
I gave him a small nod, cringing at what he said about my brother's bragging.

Along with his usual cop work miles also enjoyed visiting the academy to help train the rookies.

“Nice to meet you Leon, it's good to see you're alive.” "Yeah, you too." He gave me a long curious look before turning to open the door of the station. As Leon held the door open he turned to look at me. “Are you coming?”
I shook my head and reloaded my gun. “I'm waiting for any more survivors.”
Leon let out a slightly shaky sigh. “I was just out there and there were no other survivors.”
I looked up at his light blue eyes. “You were just out there, there could be others.” My eyes lingered on his for a minute, as my mind raced, before continuing. “But there is someone I need to find, and maybe we can help each other.”
He gave me a small smile and nodded, seeming relieved by my change of heart. “Yeah, I'm sure we can.”

The two of us stepped into the main hall of the R.P.D together and quickly closed the door behind us. Leon shot the one zombie that was standing inside and I began exploring the large area.

The door downstairs was locked and had a weird symbol on it, a blue spade.
Next to the entrance were two shutters, one on each side.
In the middle of the area was a front desk, and behind that was the other half of the main hall.
On the other side of the room was a couch with a small coffee table in front of it and an old chair next to that.
I looked up at the large statue that stood between the two flights of stairs that led to the same spot on the second floor before returning back to the other side of the environment.
Next to one of the shudders was a metal box covered in duck tape.
I took out my knife to cut the tape and pulled the switch, looking back to see Leon looking at the laptop on the front desk.
"Hey, I'll go this way! You should check out the other side of the station."
As my sentence ended he picked up his head and looked at me. “Okay! I see someone on the security cameras who needs help so I'll go find him and bring him back here.”
I nodded and watched his head turn back to the laptop before stepping through the open shutter.
