[Ashland, Oregon. Thursday,
November 23, 2015.]At last, came time to celebrate Michael's birthday in the new house. Mr. Bobinsky, Miss Spink & Forcible, Wybie, and Mrs. Lovat — the owner of the Pink Palace Apartments and the protective grandmother of Wyborn — were all invited. Of course, the attendance wasn't as big as he'd liked it (given that all his friends were back in Washington). He still appreciated the effort though.
The inside of the flat was decorated with small amounts of streamers and a few balloons. It wasn't much but it was all that David could find on such short notice. It made both Michael and Y/n feel like children again. And, for the h/c-haired girl at least, she liked the addition of the decorations. It added a sense of comfort and warmth to the once bland-looking interior of the Pink Palace.
"How's Angus doing?" Y/n asked the older women as they were the last to arrive at the party. Miss Forcible, with a gift in hand, walks over to the kitchen and places it with the rest. Miss Spink only sighs.
"Oh, much better, dear... but he can't duck his wings forever!" She says, matter-of-factly.
When she was finished talking with Miss Spink, Y/n hurried and rejoined the side of Wybie who — in true fashion — remained in a corner. Introverted. "Hey, are you okay?" She asked him, worry lacing her voice.
"Yeah..." Wybie nodded his head to reassure her. "I-It's just that I've been thinking about something." He added.
"Oh, about what?" Anxiousness ate away at Y/n.
"The cat," Wybie couldn't help but let out a small laugh as he watched the feline weave through the small crowd of people. "I think he should stay in here with you."
"But he was technically your cat before I moved here. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't even know that there was a cat here."
"W-Well, I already told you that my gramma won't let me keep him." Wybie reminded the h/c-haired girl. "Besides, it's not like I can't visit. Just... think of it as a birthday present, y'know... for your brother then." That did seem nice. Michael was the happiest that he could be after seeing the stray cat in the living room the other day. Y/n had to consider the proposition.
Just as she opened her mouth to give her final verdict, someone interrupted her. "Oh, Wybie, you're the man!" Michael practically cheered and picked up the black cat, gently engulfing it in a warm embrace.
"Oh." Y/n blinked with surprise. "Looks like he's ours now," she laughed and then looked to meet Wybie's hazel eyes. "We should get going. The movie won't take long."
With that being said, the couple started to make a break for the exit. "And where do you two think you're going?" The gruff voice of David caused the teenagers to stop in their tracks. They turned around to face him. Wybie looked flabbergasted. The pure definition of the word. His lips were slightly parted, and he looked as if he was searching for words, but he just blinked.
After a few long-awaited seconds, he cleared his throat, "Um..." he stammered.
"We're going to the movie theatre," Y/n spoke up and stood up more straight to represent her newfound confidence in herself.
"Really?" David raised a brow at the statement. "You two are going on a date on Michael's birthday?" He reminded them how selfish it sounded.
"It's alright!" The brother intervened in the discussion from the kitchen. "They can go," Michael waved his little sister and her boyfriend off. "We talk about it when you were gone." He finished, scratching the cat behind its ears. The feline seemed to appreciate the gesture.
David couldn't help but let out a small sigh as his son told him this. He slowly turned his attention back toward Y/n and Wybie. "Just bring her home before cake and ice cream, deal?" He crossed his arms over his chest. Y/n felt relieved that they didn't get yelled at. Then again, they were protected because it was Michael's birthday. An argument would not only ruin this momentous occasion but would embarrass everyone in the process. There were plenty of guests walking inside the Pink Palace.
"Deal." Wybie eagerly nodded his head understandingly. He will not let this deal pass. He then gently grabbed Y/n's hand with his gloved one and exited the building. Officially starting their first date.
