[Ashland, Oregon. Tuesday,
November 21, 2015.]After once again travelling to the Other World, Y/n couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief and stand up to her feet. However — instead of immediately heading toward the kitchen — the h/c-haired girl ended up side-stepping into a separate hallway and, upon reaching the end of the corridor, Y/n is met with a towering mirror. She frowned at the sight.
How anticlimactic, she thought.
Despite this conclusion, the teenager remained glued in her spot and stared at her reflection. It was almost as if something was beckoning her closer. As soon as Y/n went to turn around and go fix herself something to eat, she was stopped when the mirror jostled slightly which slightly spooked her in the process. She blinked in surprise.
Perhaps there is something behind it?
Outstretching her arm to its fullest length, Y/n prepared herself to touch the plate of transparent glass but stopped short. "Y/n, is that you?" The voice belonging to the Other Mother called out, almost distressed.
"Yes," she confirmed but kept her e/c eyes glued on the glass in front of her. "I'm coming." Y/n slowly left the narrow hallway, unaware that she is falling for the Beldam's spell.
Y/n poked her head in to see her Other Family standing there with a mixture of reactions to her arrival. The Other Mother looked almost heartbroken, David had a reassuring smile, and Michael had a concern written over his delicate facial features.
"Uh... hi..." Y/n awkwardly waved, finally taking a step into the kitchen. Though, she was reluctant at first. She didn't want to be yelled at (as her guardian in her world did a few hours ago). However, the Other Mother deserved an explanation as to why.
"We missed you last night. Where were you?" The older woman delicately asked with her hands clasped together.
"Oh..." Y/n averted her gaze and let out a chuckle to ease her rising anxiousness. "Something came up. I'm sorry." She apologized.
"It's really not a problem but, I will admit, you gave me... us... a fright." The Other Mother corrected herself and proceeded to gesture to both David and Michael who stood at attention beside her. "I didn't mean to." Y/n reassured.
"Oh, I know, pumpkin." The Other Mother stepped aside to reveal dinner which consisted of foot-long hotdogs with relish; grilled cheese sandwiches with gherkins; curly fries; piles of coleslaw and potato salad; five flavours of soda pop. "I have a gift for you," she pointed to the box in the middle of the table. "There's a note. Why don't you read it?" Everyone aside from the h/c-haired girl started to sit down.
"Oh... okay." Y/n shuffled closer and carefully moved the box closer, gently taking the note that once laid on the bow. It read:
Dearest Y/n,
Miss Spink and Miss Forcible have invited you downstairs after lunch. I hope you like the new outfit I made you!
Love,
Mother.Y/n smiled and tore open the box and finds a beige sweater, slightly tattered jeans, and a pair of beautiful shoes to match. She holds up the sweater to her body, smiles, then puts down the clothes and digs into lunch with the rest of her Other Family.
