"JESUS!" Allie and Finn said in unison.
"GUYS! WE NEED TO GET IT OFF OF HIM ALREADY!" I yelled, pulling harder. Allie and Finn followed my lead and we, somehow, managed to get the thing off him. It ran back to the woods where it came from.
"Reid! Are you okay?" Allie knelt next to him.
"No! Does it look like I'm okay!?" Reid snapped.
"Someone call 911!" Finn said, trying to catch his breath.
"On it!" I pulled out my phone and punched in the three numbers.
After he called because I said so.
"Okay, they should be here soon," I tried to remain calm, but there was still a bit of panic in my voice. "We should find something to wrap what's left of his arm in."
"We can use my jacket," Finn suggested.
"I guess that works," Allie grabbed it from him and proceeded to wrap it around the wound on Reid's arm.
It was silent as we waited for the ambulance to arrive. The only things we said were to Reid, making sure he was still awake. Soon, we heard the sirens blaring from down the street.
"They're here!" Although it was obvious, Finn still pointed that out. We lifted Reid as the ambulance got to us and put him on the stretcher the paramedics brought out.
"Will he be okay?" Allie asked.
"He should be," the paramedic that was closest to us replied. He was a tall man, with brown hair and blue eyes.
"Okay," Allie sighed.
"You kids should go home. We'll call the one that called us tomorrow to tell you if your friend is ok," the other nurse said as she helped carry the stretcher. Her voice was calm and soothing. But, we all were still shaken by what just happened. Would the thing come back? Why did it attack Reid? These questions burned in the back of my head as Allie and I walked home.
At home, I went to my room and just sat in bed. Not like there was much else to do. My parents were still working and my sister, Harper, doesn't live here anymore. My younger brother was staying the night at his friend's house. So, I had the house to myself for a while. I stared at the sea-blue walls of my bedroom for a while.
The moment Reid got attacked just kept replaying. It was haunting me. The creature looked like some animal, but which one? It looked like a mix of a bear and a wolf. This thing had the sharpest teeth ever. Along with razors for claws. The red-glowing dots for eyes and its deafening howls were nightmare fuel. I couldn't tell what it was made out of. It looked almost like a shadow but it was black and goopy at the same time. Seriously, what was that thing? I decided not to think of that anymore and just went on my phone till I fell asleep.
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the sun blasting in my eyes.
"Ugh, what time is it?" I yawned, rubbing my eyes. I looked at the clock. It was one pm. Dang, I was asleep for that long? I got out of bed and checked my phone to find a missed call from the hospital. Huh? Why would they call me? Then I remembered. Reid.
I pressed the option to call back and waited. Please tell me he's okay. He has to be okay! They picked up, thankfully.
"Hello, this is Hensfeid Hospital. How may I assist you?" The receptionist cheerfully asked.
"Uhm, I was called this morning about my friend. His name is Reid. Reid Gibson," I stated.
"Oh! Yes, I will transfer you to Doctor Cantley! Please hold," she said as the hold music started to play. The wait wasn't as long as I thought it would be, thank the lord.
"Hello, this is Doctor Cantely speaking," the voice over the phone was deep and raspy.
"Er- I was called this morning about Reid Gibson. I didn't answer because I was asleep," I replied.
"Oh, yes. Yes, I remember. Something strange happened to your friend. It would be easier to show you in person. Please bring the rest of your group and come here immediately," Dr. Cantley's voice shifted to a more uncomfortable tone.
"Okay," I tried to be calm.
"See you soon," he hung up the phone, which was unusual for a Doctor. I guess he might have other things to do. I got up and fixed my hair. I didn't have to change because I slept in my clothes, and there was no time to change. I called up Allie and Finn and told them to meet me at the hospital.
I was the first to get there, so I waited around ten minutes for the two of them to arrive.
"Aspen!" Finn ran up to me. "Why are we here? Is it about Reid?"
I told them both why we came here as we went inside. We said nothing else to each other after we were told what room Reid was in.
"Oh, this must be your friends, Reid!" Doctor Cantley was standing next to Reid's bed.
"So, what is this 'strange' thing you wanted to show us?" I asked, somewhat suspicious.
"Well, when you called 911, you said Reid lost his arm. Correct?" He looked at me like I was a criminal.
"Yea, we all witnessed him lose it," I gulped as the memory came back to my head.
"It seems that there is nothing wrong with him, though," Doctor Cantley walked up to us.
"What do you mean? How is there nothing wrong?" Finn angrily asked.
"He still has both his arms,"
