An empty street, soon filled with the bustle of people. The noise of children playing and people working filled the air. The city of Naples came to life with the sky, starting the day for most people.
A small child walked through the streets, calling for their parents. "Mama! Papa! Where are you?!" they called out. Wandering down the street carefully trailing their hand against the wall they continue their search.
After a bit more walking they bump into someone, a little boy, causing the both of them to fall down. "I'm so sorry" both began to speak at the same time. Giggles escaped the two children, the boy helped the other up and mumbled something, "What did you say? I didn't hear you."
A bit louder the boy spoke "I'm Giorno Giovanna and I'm sorry for bumping into you" he looked at the ground expecting the other to just leave, but instead "Hello Giorno, I'm (Y/N) (L/N), it's nice to meet you."
Giorno looked back up and was met with a smile, a contagious smile. He smiled back and asked "What were you doing? Where you looking for someone?"
(Y/N)'s face then turned alarmed as they panickedly said "I got separated from my parents! I can't find them" They began to tear up, distress taking over their body
"Why are you looking for them in an alleyway?" Giorno tilted his head inquisitively
"I didn't know I was in an alley! Can you help me? I can't see all that great" (Y/N) looked down, slightly embarrassed. Their vision had gotten worse lately, they were on their way to a doctor to get them checked as their glasses stopped helping,
"Oh of course I'll help" Giorno grabbed (Y/N)'s hand, pulling them back to the street "We should go find a police officer! We can get help from one of them" He pulled (Y/N)'s wrist leading them to a group of police officers.
"Excuse me sir?" Giorno got the attention of one of the cops
"What d'ya want runt" the police officer looked angry to be interrupted from his meal, though his words held no real malice
"They got lost from their parents" He pulled you forward and pushed you closer to the cop so you could talk to him
"I can't find them anywhere and I don't know what to do" you cried as the officer looked at you confused
"Oh well, it's no problem. I'll just give you two a ride around while we look for 'em. How's that sound?" the officer smiled down at you, making you calm down slightly
"Okay"

"(Y/N)!" Giorno ran over to the other child, "Happy Birthday"
(Y/N) turned to the voice of their friend "Thank you!" They smiled a wide smile donning a look of mischief "My parents are gonna hold my party this weekend, but if you want we can do some stuff today" They had a fox-like look about them, smiling slyly, waiting for their friend to answer.
"What do you have planned?" Giorno had gotten used to their shenanigans by now, knowing that they had a plan that'd most likely get one of them in trouble.
(Y/N) let out an offended gasp "You think in plotting!?" They moved their hand to their chest, hugging around their body "I'm hurt you'd ever think that about me!"
Giorno sighed looking down "Fine, what do you wanna do? It's your birthday after all" He'd walked right into their trap
"I wanna go to the ocean! Let's go swim" They grabbed his hand, pulling him behind him as they sprinted towards the sound of the bay smiling as they'd never been able to convince Giorno to swim with them.
"Hey! I didn't agree to that!" Giorno pulled his arm back trying to escape the grasp "Look out" He grabbed their hand and pulled them back hard as a car sipped past honking its horn at the kids
(Y/N) paused for a second, then looked down at the ground, whispering "I didn't see it" The words were more directed at themself then Giorno, they lifted their head "Gio I'm going blind, I'm not gonna see at all soon" they belted out, their eyes wetting at the corners
Giorno looked at his friend, sadness aperent on his face "How much can you see now?" he asked genuinely " How long until you can't see anymore?"
"The doctors said I'll be blind by the time I turn ten! I'm already nine. I already can't see much more than colors, I don't wanna stop seeing!" (Y/N) was rambling, sad they would never get the chance to see the world, too young to process what was happening properly
Giorno reached over and pulled them into a hug "Well if you can't see I'll see for you!" He was still hugging them, his eyes showed no sign of tears like his friend, just the burning determination he held to make them happy. "I'll carry this heavy burden with you!"
(Y/N) was surprised by his proclamation, hugging him back just as tightly whispering "thank you" over and over until they stopped crying.

The pair was sitting on a dock that stretched out over the water, Giorno looked over at his friend "Are you sure you'll be fine?" His feet hung out over the water as he prepared himself for the cold embrace of the ocean
"Yea, I've done this before. It's not like I can't swim!" (Y/N) punched his shoulder playfully, smiling that smile of thiers. They then looked back down at the water, taking a deep breath then splashing down into the water. They stayed under the water for a moment before coming to the surface and splashing up at Giorno "Come on! The waters great"
Giorno was looking down at the water, not really wanting to swim, then to his friend who was splashing around and floating on their back. He sighed and stood up, taking a running start and jumping into the water.
The two swam around for hours, eventually getting tired and getting out of the water "You wanna go get some gelato?" (Y/N) looked at Giorno as they walked down the street, water dripping from their hair
"Do you have money?" Giorno looked at his friend, thinking that they had forgotten that food costs money
"Yep I've got money! My Mama gave me enough to buy a treat for us!" They pulled out some money, smiling happily at Giorno.
He was insistent that he didn't need any, but when they said they'd buy it anyway he'd given in, "But you've gotta let me pay you back, it's your birthday I should be paying for you!"
After the two of them got your icy treats they both decided it was time to go home for the day, Giorno walked you home, as he always did "I'll see you tomorrow okay?" He yelled after them as them walked to your door
"Of course Gio!" (Y/N) turned back to the gate and yelled back.
The two had kept this ritual up for years, Giorno loved the normality of it, an (Y/N) loved the feeling of familiarity it left. Both had been friends for years, they had talked about everything with each other. Giorno talked about his home life and how it's changed, he suspected, thanks to a mafioso he'd helped. (Y/N) talked about their lessening sight, and how it was affecting their parents. They both had issues of varying challenge, but no matter what the other went through, they always had a friend to talk to.
Before (Y/N) and Giorno knew it, they were in highschool, Giorno had kept his promise, seeing for his friend. The pair had grown even closer, relying on each other to get through school. (Y/N) staying at home with their parents, making studying rather easy and Giorno continued to guide them around like a compass, keeping them safe and out of any trouble.
