"He said what?" Phil exclaimed as I finished updating him.
"Yeah." I shook my head, still not being able to comprehend last night's events.
"Let me just show you the text history. It's better read than explained." I handed
him my phone as we started walking towards my car after school had ended.
I had had another surprise pop quiz for history during second period, and I was genuinely surprised to find that I was able to answer the questions with ease. Mr.Moors had quickly scanned my paper as I had handed it to him and had given me a smile and a nod of approval.
We got to my car and I unlocked the doors for us to get in. Once inside, I waited for Phil to finish reading the messages.
"Ok, I don't really analyze text messages like you girls do," Phil started, handing me my phone. "But he was majorly flirting with you there." He smirked. "I knew he'd come around."
"Ok, don't get me wrong, I so badly want to believe you, but that's not it! He was just trying to get on my nerves Phil." I grumbled as I started the engine. "Being the pompous pig he is."
Phil stared laughing. "You really are something Elena Michael Walters."
My eyes widened as I realized that sounded familiar. "Oh my gosh! Lind said the exact same thing to me yesterday!" I gasped. "Are you two psychic?" I laughed. "You guys are so alike."
Phil rolled his eyes and suddenly found an interest outside the window. "Please. We are nothing alike."
I thoughtfully looked at Phil, who was clearly wanting to change the subject at hand and made a mental note to ask him about it later.
Phil suddenly cleared his throat. "Hey would you mind if we took a trip downtown? My dad asked me to stop by his work, he's been looking for an internship for me with his co worker and apparently he's free today."
I smiled. "Of course! A trip downtown would be nice. We can stop by that cute little coffee shop across from your dads building."
Phil grinned. "You mean that cute little shop downtown where they always play MJ music?" He knowingly teased.
"Pft. Don't act like you don't enjoy it."
"I won't." He suddenly looked at me. "And if you're talking about my baby it don't matter if you're.."
"Black or white!" We both finished. laughing.

"I'll just wait here for you Phil." I stopped by the entrance to the coffee shop and nodded to my friend.
"Ok, I won't be long. He just wants to meet me and grab my schedule." Phil glanced at the fall building across the street and I grabbed his hand.
"Don't worry. He's gonna like you! Good luck." I smiled encouragingly at him and he smiled in return.
"Ok, here I go!"
I watched him cross the street and enter the building, and then I went into the shop. The familiar smell of waffles and hot chocolate greeted me as I walked in, and I was suddenly overwhelmed by all the emotions that drifted through me. Back when my dad had been alive, he had always brought me here when we we has visited downtown. And we had always ordered hot chocolate. I closed my eyes, and imagined my dad smiling at me.
I walked off towards the corner couch that had become my signature spot, and took a seat, enjoying the comfort it brought me. I settled down and reached inside my bag to bring out the current novel I was reading, called 'A Wizard of Earthsea' by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was for my English class, however the book had soon become a fast favourite that I planned to purchase the rest of the books in the series. I decided to order something when Phil came back from his mini interview.
