Pearl grabbed her microphone and took a seat across from Marina in the studio.
Marina scrolled through her phone for a few seconds before it was time to start. Pearl watched her quietly.
The music began to play and the inkling took a breath and got ready.
"You know what time it is!" Pearl said enthusiastically.
"It's Off the Hook coming at live from Inkopolis Square!" Marina finished.
They started to go through the stages for the battle grounds.
They laughed and made jokes as usual. Staring into eachothers eyes, they paused. The studio filled with an akward silence.
Marina shook her head snapping out of it.
"And now a word from our sponsor!"
Pearl opened her mouth to speak but stopped.
The ground shook underneath them. Marina grabbed the table to stay balanced.
Another inkling working at the studio ran inside. She fell onto her knees and grabbed Pearl's microphone from her hands and shouted in a panicked voice, "Evacuate Inkopolis! An explosion! In- inside the battle area!" She dropped the microphone and ran out.
Marina looked to Pearl. Her eyes were widened with fear. "We need to get out of here! There's a quick way out of Inkopolis! Follow me!" Another inkling shouted.
Marina turned to run. Pearl followed behind as they made it out of the studio.
But behind them was an explosion. Marina looked back to no longer see Peral following close behind.
"PEARL!" Her eyes filled with tears as she tried to run back, but another inkling grabbed her wrist and stopped her.
They retreated to a hill just outside of Inkopolis.
