Chapter 10:

Detective Claire Thompson had spent her career solving some of the toughest cases in the city. But she had always known that there were dangers that came with the job. As she drove home one night, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being followed.

She checked her rearview mirror, but there was no one there. Still, the feeling persisted, and she started to feel uneasy. She took a different route home, hoping to lose whoever was following her.

As she pulled up to her house, she breathed a sigh of relief. She was safe. Or so she thought.

As she got out of her car and walked towards her front door, she heard a noise behind her. She turned around, but it was too late. A figure in a black hooded jacket grabbed her from behind, pulling her into the shadows.

Claire struggled, but her attacker was too strong. She could feel a sharp pain in her back as the attacker plunged a knife into her. She screamed, but no one came to her aid.

As she lay on the ground, bleeding and helpless, her attacker revealed their face. It was someone she had never seen before, but their eyes were filled with an unexplainable rage.

"Why?" Claire managed to gasp, before her attacker plunged the knife into her one final time.

The last thing Claire saw was a twisted smile on the killer's face, before everything went black.

The city was stunned by Claire's death. She had been a respected and beloved member of the police force, and her loss was felt deeply by everyone who knew her.

The investigation into her death turned up few leads. The killer had left no evidence behind, and it seemed that they had vanished into thin air.

Despite the lack of progress in the case, Claire's colleagues refused to give up. They knew that she would have wanted them to continue fighting for justice, no matter what.

As the years passed, the killer was never caught. But Claire's memory lived on, and her legacy inspired a new generation of detectives to take up the mantle and fight for justice in the city she loved.
