🎶 Some party music in the background 🎶
Music was playing.
Bodies were swaying.
Somewhere people were chatting.
It was a typical Bachelorette/Bachelor party.
She was looking for her best friend Tia when she found her instead.
"I am so glad I found you," Tia said, hugging her. "I was looking for you for a while. Where were you, Jenna?"
"Oh. I was thirsty, so I went to grab a coke."
"There's something I want to tell you. But promise me you won't get angry."
"What did you do?"
"What do you mean? Nevermind. Look, you know it's not just my bachelorette party. It's Nick's bachelor's too. So his friends are here as well. Which is why we had to call his ..."
Suddenly Jenna spotted her ex.
"So Bryan is here?"
That stopped Tia from her blabber. "Yes. I know it was a hard breakup, and I wouldn't have called him. But he is Nick's best friend. Sorry."
"For what? I knew he would be here. He really doesn't bother me. Chill."
"Umm. Bryan was asking if you are single."
"Huh? What?"
"I told him you are seeing someone."
"Why?"
"And that you brought your plus one."
"You are telling this now? Why did you lie anyway?"
"I wanted him to think you have moved on." Seeing Jenna's face, she immediately continued. "Which you have, of course. Sorry!"
Glaring at her best friend, she made her way through the crowd.
Suddenly she tripped on a wire. A stranger caught her just as she was about to touch the ground. Out of reflex, she held the stranger's shoulders tightly.
Needing to thank them, she opened her mouth. When she saw the stranger, the words died. Holding her was a fine specimen of God. She felt she would drown herself in those ocean-blue eyes. To say she was mesmerized was an understatement. He held her gaze without blinking.
Everyone else faded away. It was just the two of them in the room.
As someone yelled, they got out of their trance.
"Hello there." She mentally smacked herself for saying that. He was amused though he tried to conceal his smile.
"Hello."
"Thank you!" She breathed out.
With a charming smile, he replied, "any time."
"I am Jenna."
"Erik. Nice to meet you. Are you okay?"
With that question, the magic broke. She came back to reality. A reality she desperately wanted to avoid. Erik patiently waited as she observed him.
"I need a favour. Are you single?"
"Huh? Yes. Why?"
"Awesome!" Seeing his eyebrow raised, she quickly clarified. "It's great because it won't cause any problem with your partner."
Suspiciously he asked, "what is it?"
She put his arms around her waist and hers over his shoulders.
"If you wanted to dance, you could just ask."
