Chapter 10

Anna looked at the space Rowan had occupied moments before and let out a scream. Liann followed suit, and Adrian almost lost control of the truck in the middle of a residential street. He parked in front of a house and turned back, ready to scream at the girls for almost making him crash, until he saw the empty space.

"What... the fuck." he said, tapping Kiwerath in the shoulder. Kiewrath had already turned around in the passenger seat and stared blankly at the empty space.

"She... she disappeared. But--but I thought she'd gotten telekinesis, dude." Said John.

"So did I." Adrian scratched his head. "Let's just get to uncle Reese's; we'll figure out—"

Adrian's phone rang; it was Rowan. He put it on speaker. Her voice was hurried and her breathing was shallow.

"Adrian, are you there? I need—I don't know where I am, I'm in a backyard in some place—I don't—"

"Rowan, can you share your location with me?" Adrian spoke softly, hoping his pretend calmness would influence her.

"Oh. The location. I forgot. Yes—um, yes, let me..." There was silence on the other end for some seconds, and she came back. "I don't know how I forgot—but anyway, you should be getting it soon."

Adrian's phone pinged. He opened the maps application and saw that Rowan was a couple of blocks away. He looked again and felt that location was familiar, somehow, but he just couldn't place it. Then he heard Kiewrath's voice talking to Rowan.

"Ro, what were you thinking about in the car?"

"Kie what does it matter what I was thinking in the car!" her whispers were barely audible. "I just need you to come get me before Payne does!"

"Ro, answer the question. You're fine, I promise you."

There was a grunt on the other end of the line. Everyone in the car was hanging on to the silence. "I was... I was thinking of uncle Reese; how we haven't seen him in a long time. Now, can you come get me?"

Kiewrath chuckled, and, when he saw Liann's death stare, he lifted his hands up and spoke. "Ro, we're not gonna come get you. You're already there. Just go to the front door and knock. Dad's expecting us."

There was silence on the line. "You mean... you mean I... but I can't teleport, Kie!"

"Stop whispering and get in the house Ro! We're right behind you!" Liann turned her head to Adrian. "And you, start driving!"

Adrian said a quick goodbye, hung up, and started driving to Reese's house. Everyone was quiet the rest of the way, wondering if they'd all have a similar episode. Kiewrath was the only one who didn't look worried. He tried to contain his excitement as much as he could, until the whole family was together.

He was no longer alone.
