I was sitting at a table, observing the graceful dance happening not too far away. I wasn't into dancing much so I remained seated. My mother didn't bother me about it too much and went to mingle with the other guests. It was quite boring but at least I had some time to daydream and be lost in my mind for a little.
While letting my eyes roam I found myself observing a gentleman who seemed quite peculiar. He wore light beige clothing and smiled happily while conversing with people. He was the slightest bit rotund but out of all the young and fit men here, he's the one who caught my eye. I realized I was staring so I quickly averted my eyes and continued being lost in thought.
I have no idea how much time had passed but I soon feel a presence next to me. I look up a little annoyed thinking it was my mother but my expression quickly changes when I see the stranger I was looking at earlier right next to me with a soft smile. I feel slight heat climbing through my cheeks but I try to calm my nerves. This is when he decides to speak.
''Pardon me if I am interrupting anything, but I noticed you looking my way earlier and you seemed quite bored so I was wondering if you would perhaps mind a little company?''
My cheeks feel warmer than before but I somehow manage a response.
''Sure, have a seat if you wish sir.''
He chuckles sweetly.
''Oh no you do not have to be so formal dear, just call me Aziraphale.''
''O-oh....alright then, and call me Alzenia.''
He sits gently in front of me and replies.
''What a wonderful name, quite unique.''
I blush once again, I seem to do that a lot tonight.
''Thanks, I like yours too, fascinatingly ethereal.''
He laughs a little nervously, but seems to take the compliment well.
I look at him more closely, his hair was unnaturally white with blonde undertones, it fit his clothing very well and made him stand out through all the people. He had this charm that I had never felt coming from anyone before and it made me a little giddy in my gut. It felt strange because I wasn't usually one for feeling anything towards any potential suitors. I found them all boring and repetitive.
''Tell me dear, do you like reading?''
My thoughts interrupted I blink out of my reverie.
''Yes I do, it's actually one of my favorite pastimes.''
His smile seems to brighten at my answer.
''Oh perfect, you seemed bored earlier so if you wish, I could borrow you the book I brought for myself.''
''Y-you don't have to, I don't want to take your escape from you.''
Some emotion seems to brew in his eyes for a brief moment before it leaves as soon as it appeared.
''I insist, I find myself rather enjoying your company, so if you wish to read instead of conversing I would be delighted to simply sit and relax here.''
My heart pounds a little faster, who is this man? Why is he so....considerate? Men weren't usually like that. I feel a sense of curiosity at his reading habits gnawing at the back of my brain.
''Alright then, if you are sure you don't need it at the moment, I'd be glad to take a look.''
He grins and seemingly produces a book from one of his coat pockets. I take it from his hand and look at the cover. I couldn't tell what it was about from the title but I opened it and started reading through. It wasn't long before the words started to blur together because I just couldn't concentrate. He was openly taking glances at me and observing me and I could feel my face burning. I turned the pages, trying my best to pretend to read but I don't think it was very convincing.
''It seems you are more interested in me than whatever you're reading dear.'' He says in a slightly coy tone.
My heart feels like it stops dead in my chest. Fuck....he knows, what do I do?
''I-...sorry! I just...I have never met someone like you before...I couldn't help it! I apologize if I made you uncomfortable.''
He openly laughs and my heart melts at the sound, I must look like an idiot.
''Don't worry dear, I do not mind at all, I find myself doing the same thing with you. I have never met someone quite like you before.''
My entire body feels like its combusting into flames. How can he be both endearingly adorable, but also radiate some type of carnal want at the same time. I struggle to understand this person, but somehow he's making me feel things I've never felt before. I don't think my brain understood the situation as being real yet.
''I am surprised no suitors have come your way tonight.''
His words bring me out of me stupor and I try to formulate a response.
''W-well, you're telling me you didn't come to my table for courting purposes?''
''Ohoho, not at first no, but you took me by surprise after our conversation started and it seems you do not mind my attention.''
My breath catches in my throat, why does he have to call me out like that?
''I-I..no I don't mind, but I was surprised you approached me at all since I have scared almost all other suitors away, they must be seething in their shoes that I haven't made you leave.''
I end my sentence with a playful tone, and it has the intended effect because he chuckles. His eyes seem to suddenly get a slightly more sultry sheen.
''I do not usually care for courting other people, but it seems you have tempted me, and I cannot even say you did it on purpose, you fascinate me.''
I try to calm down because if I don't my heart will explode.
''I will admit you fascinated me too, you stand out a lot with those colors.''
I tried to sound confident but I think it came out more shy than intended. He giggles sweetly and I chuckle as well.
''Well my dear, I'm afraid it's my time to leave, I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with you tonight.''
I feel disappointed but try my best not to let it show.
''Likewise, you are very pleasant company.''
He gets up from his chair and comes over to me. He takes my hand and delivers a soft kiss on top of it. It feels like my heart skips a beat and my hand tingles at the spot his lips touched. He bids me farewell and starts to walk away.
''Wait! Aziraphale your book!'' I call after him.
He turns around for a brief moment.
''Oh keep it for the moment, we will meet again and when that time comes, you can give it back to me.''
He then gives me one last soft smile and leaves. I stay in awe for a few seconds before smiling to myself. My heart was still fluttering from our encounter, and I hugged the book slightly to my chest before putting it away. The party was almost over, soon I would get to go home and get some sleep.
I couldn't wait to see him again.

A dream I had featuring Aziraphale
FanfictionThis is a dream I had so he may he kinda out of character but this makes little sense as it was a dream after all. The era is hard to pinpoint, but it's kinda like the 1800's with some modern aspects (dreams make no fucking sense, again).
