Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say but if you only knew
How easy, it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say

I've been in America for a couple of days now and somehow, I've convinced myself that unemployment is part of the cultural experience. I keep waking up late, wandering around with no job, no plan, not even a clue. It's strange — I thought coming to America would flip some "new life" switch inside me, but instead, it's like I'm floating. Just pretending I have my life together just because I own a couch and a set of mismatched mugs, a fridge full of cheap wine and leftover takeout. You'd think a girl living in a free apartment would at least try to make something of it — News flash: here I am, broke and delusional
So, there I was — 7 a.m. on a Sunday, exhausted, probably hungover. Shouldn't have had those beers. I did the usual: shower, coffee, questionable life choices. For some reason, though, I was feeling myself. Then I remembered why — I had $106 in my wallet. Easily earned by outsmarting a bunch of blokes who don't know how to play poker.
I got dressed, threw on some makeup (because, why not), and headed to Central Perk.
Gunther was at the counter, taking a lady's order, which gave me time to think about mine. I felt someone behind me — turned around — Joey.
"Hey, Diane!" he said, all smiles, practically bouncing.
"Hey, Joey. Why so chipper?"
"Oh, thanks for noticing! I got called back for an audition. I'm nervous and kinda... weirdly excited."
"Congratulations! And why's that?"
"Well, I usually don't even get callbacks. Half the time I don't make it to the audition, so yeah — it's a big deal. I don't wanna screw it up."
"You want to order first? You seem in a rush."
"Oh, thanks. Yeah, by the way, I wanted to ask yo—"
Gunther cut him off as soon as he finished with the lady.
"Good morning, foreign," he greeted me flatly.
"That's a new one. Morning to you too, Baldy."
Joey blinked, confused. "You know each other?"
"You got a problem with that?" Gunther shot back.
"No, dude, I just want my breakfast," Joey said with that cocky little smile of his.
Whatever weird rivalry they had, I didn't want to be part of it. Joey ordered, we said goodbye, and I couldn't help wondering what he'd wanted to ask me.
"What was that all about?" I asked.
"Tribbiani" Gunther complains with an angry expression "He can be an asshole sometimes" he then muttered.
