Emma was a normal but at the same time particular girl in Mondstadt. She didn't consider herself as someone lonely, however the people she somewhat trusted could be counted with the fingers of just one of your hands.
"What are you going to do now?" She asked the traveler, the day after saving Dvalin.
"I have to leave Mondstadt, I won't find my sister if I stay here" he said.
"And Paimon will go with Aether!" Paimon smiled.
"I want to go, too" Emma said.
"What?" Aether asked in surprise and confusion.
"B-But what about the church? And Shannon and Venti!" Paimon asked.
"This is not life for me, I always feel like something is missing or wrong with me, I want to know what my origins are, I need to know where I came from and who I am" she explained "this is something I thought a lot about, please let me join you guys, I can fight too! You saw me yesterday!".
Aether looked in thought. Having someone to travel with besides Paimon wouldn't be so bad, specially considering Emma's fighting skills.
"If you have made your final decision, you can join us" Aether smiled, grabbing his waist.
Emma smiled brightly and nodded.
"Thank you! I promise not to be deadweight. When are we leaving?".
"Tomorrow morning" Aether said.
"Yayy! Emma will be a great travel companion for Paimon and Aether!" Paimon celebrated.
...
"Please take care" Shannon cried hugging Emma "I'll miss you".
"Hey, we'll meet again" she answered hugging back and smiling "this is not a goodbye".
"Be careful out there, write us a letter! And come visit" Venti said with a smile.
...
Aether was desperately searching for Emma, who left the camp before he woke up and was nowhere to be seen.
He and Paimon waited for her for what seemed like ages to return, but still no signs of her."What if she got lost? We have to find her!" Paimon said scared and Aether nodded.
"Let's search for her".
Emma was sitting on a cliff, hugging her knees. The breeze hugged her wet cheeks and caressed her hair, it reminded her of something Venti used to say to her and Shannon.
And when the world seems too much, Barbatos will be there to comfort you with a soft breeze.
"Hey, you okay?" Aether asked, forcing her out of her thoughts.
"No, not really" Emma answered, tears in her eyes, she refused to look at him "it's just-- it feels like I'm not going anywhere, like nothing is changing, I still don't know anything and time just passes by".
Aether sighed and sat by her side, he felt bad for her. He wished for her to be happy, after all their moments together, all the times she cheered him up and fought by his side with everything she had. She was such a nice girl, it pained him to see her feel so hopeless.
"Our journey hasn't ended yet, there are many things for us to see and discover" he said looking at the horizon "sometimes I feel the same way you do, I feel like even after going through so much trouble, after we saved 3 nations, I still don't know almost anything about my sister, I don't know if she's even alive or in this world".
Emma felt terrible, she felt like her situation was far less sad than Aether's and that she was being dramatic. Lots of thoughts of the same kind filled her mind and she felt worse and worse. Her hands trembled and she was struggling not to sob.
