The pawn's second life

Chapter 4 - First Meet

After training for an hour more when she was able to gain a bit of control on her abilities, she completed the training for the day.

After resting a little, she went off towards the imperial library to dig up more information about magic, and after bringing out a few books, she sat down and started concentrating on her work.

Valentina POV :

Woah! There's a lot of information present in these books. So to imbue magic into a sword, I should know atleast the basic sword skills, well ofcourse that's a given.
During my time in the orphanage, a teacher once came who helped us to learn self-defense and how to use swords, daggers etc along with teaching literature, dance and a few other skills. The orphanage owners and teachers used to treat the kids miserably so everyone thought that maybe they all had a change of heart. But later it turned out that there was a secret competition organised by owners of different orphanages to entertain themselves and see which orphanage was better in terms of kids possessing skills. Some humans truly never change...( *Sighed* )
Anyway, I was the self-defense and sword representative from my orphanage, so I hope they can be of some use here.
( *Angry* )Even though I am thankful I got to learn a skill doesn't matter if it was just a means of entertainment for her, I hate that old hag for turning our childhood into a nightmare. I bet she must burning in hell right now ( *sadistic smile* )

So...according to this book, I've to channel my mana and bringing it up to my fingertips and imagine to channel it into my sword. This way combining both of them will enhance the damage created by the sword by quite a few times and once I've mastered it I'll be able to use magic separately while using a sword. That sounds exciting, well there's a lot to learn about this world ( *Shrugging* ).

The sun was slowly setting and Valentina realized that it was also time for her to go back. She picked up the book and rushed to keep it on the shelf where she had borrowed it from since she didn't want any of Isabella's underlings to even get the air that she was trying to focus on magic and swordsmanship.
The shelf where the book had to be kept was a little high and even though she had managed to take it out with a little effort, she was not being able to keep it back. Looking here and there to make sure no one was around her, she tried to jump a little and keep the book in its place. But the first attempt went in vain, then second, two more attempts following it also yielded no results but during the fifth attempt she somehow lost her balance as her ankle got twisted because of the heels she was wearing.

Valentina - Sh*t I am gonna fall at this rate!

She slipped and was about to fall but before she could, someone caught her by the waist and twirling her around saved her from the fall.
She gulped looking at her saviour, his regal golden eyes shone even more fiercely in the dim sunset light, and his wavy white hair looked extremely smooth and charming. He was holding her by her waist with one hand while the other was up in the air holding the book. As soon as her eyes fell on the book and back at the man, her mind got snapped into reality and she immediately freed herself from his arms and stood up properly. Meanwhile, the man helped her up and kept the book on the shelf.

Valentina - ( *Thinking* ) If it's white hair and golden eyes then this man must be-!

Valentina - Greeting to the master of north - the esteemed duke Vaspertine, I am Valentina Isidor. I would like to apologise for my rudeness earlier and I am grateful towards his grace for his help.

Duke Alexis Vaspertine - It's an honour to meet the princess. There's no problem, I merely helped the princess a little since she was about to fall, there is nothing to be grateful for, it was my duty afterall.

Valentina - ( *Smiled* ) His grace is too kind.

Alexis - If her highness doesn't mind then can I escort my lady to her carriage? ( *Courteous* )
