It had been a long night after his accident and Pei Su was very tired, which was why he didn't resist when Luo Weizhao drove him to his home in his car, with a birthday cake on his lap. They have known each other for seven years and their relationship has been a bit rocky since the beginning, for one reason or another, but lately, Pei Su really didn't know what to make of the sudden change in Luo Weizhao's part.

The first time Pei Su saw Luo Weizhao was when his mother decided to end her life once and for all. Back then, Luo Weizhao was a rookie officer, the same as Tao Ze. That awful day, he had burst into his open house and covered his eyes with his hand to somehow shield him from the horrible sight he was looking at. Pei Su was only fourteen years old and in the mind of a young adult, such a tragedy befalling a child was hard to swallow and had a huge impact, even more so when it was his first case.

After that, he pestered the two young rookies in the hope that at least one of them would heed his request to investigate Pei Chengyu, because he wanted nothing more than to expose his father's sins to the light, perhaps with hoping to lessen his own guilt over not being able to help his mother, even when he wanted to.

His father was an Apath, so deep down, Pei Su wonders if he was one of them to the core or if he had inherited something from his mother as well. The question had always lingered in the back of his mind, as he struggled with whatever or not, he was on his way to becoming another monster and used the two policemen, forcing Luo Weizhou to do what he did not have the power to to fulfill.

At that time, Pei Su wanted to gain the upper hand somehow to gather evidence of his father's wrongdoings, but in the end, he only gained Luo Weizhou distrust and suspicions. It was because of that their relationship was bumpy at best. Weizhou considers him dangerous after seeing him burry a bird his father had crushed inside his hand as an example of his heartless teachings.

Of course, he didn't want to kill that bird, nor the cat that he later entrust to Tao Ze in order to save it from his father 'teaching'... but as much as it irks him at times, he had to admit that Luo Weizhao didn't know all that, he didn't know his struggles, he didn't know the monster that he was forced to live with, he didn't know of his mother's suffering, he didn't know of the cruel way he was brough, of the punishments that make his mother go insane and later take her own life.

Weizhao only knew of the things he did behind his back, like burying that poor bird or carbon tracing his notebooks on those rare occasions when he visited his home. In fact, Luo Weizhao only saw his what he already expected of him, never really asking for explanations and always assuming the worse. It was that, what make him hang around Tao Ze more often than Weizhao and why they always end up bickering on sight.

As the Captain always assumed the worst, he saw no point in making him think otherwise. Most of the things he needed he got them from Tao Ze, who truly cared for him and sympathize with his tragic past, giving him the benefit of the doubt, which in a way help him put back together the many pieces of his broken soul.

That have been their past... but after that case with He Zongyi, everything changed so fast that he didn't know where they may end up from then on. The distance he had carefully maintained with Weizhao was now pretty much inexistence after he genuinely apologized to him for being biased before and suspecting him, just because he may be an Apath.

Thus, as he entered Luo Weizhao's apartment, he was completely lost in their new relationship. In his hand he was holding the birthday cake he only got with them, while Weizhao went to the kitchen to cook for him. The place itself brings him some mixed feelings of both cold and warm moments, just like the can of candy he was entrusted after the cake was placed in the table.

In a way, Pei Su was moved for the Captain to care about him more deeply than he first give him credit and he had to admit that his caring, although troublesome, it was not exactly unwelcome, because perhaps deep inside himself, he had been starving for it unconsciously.
