You always did find the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore calming, it made you all the more excited to visit the mysterious man you had met under the pier. he always kept you on your toes, making you question everything you thought you knew about ocean life, he had often talked about his cave under the sea far off the coast that you had yet to visit, he had promised to one day take you down the depths below to see his home... He really was quite a strange man, you couldn’t help but to love him, you remembered the times when you'd had a bad day, and he would always manage to cheer you up.
He was humble and gentle with everything involving you… you made his heart swell, and yet you hadn't suspected his ulterior motives, nor the sly smirk plastered on his face, knowing  he'd soon get what he was after...

As per tradition, you were bringing your merman boyfriend something from your world to show him. He loved to learn about land things and what humans liked to do for fun,  even though he'd already known about the human world,  hearing about things from you always brought a sly smile on his face…
He did the same for you, bringing you items from the world under the water. items from his collection of found things or a human trinket that had been repurposed for merfolk use. It was always so fun to see, lately, he'd expressed his interest in plants and fungi, so planning on feeding his self-interest you brought a small container of herbal plants and mushrooms….

sitting close to the pier, hidden away from viewing eyes, even though there wasn't anyone else at the beach, the day hadn't been so busy, you were alone for quite some time. The wait was usually long because there was never a surefire way to tell time under the water. While you did have a watch, Jade only had the sun. Like most days, you had agreed to meet at noon since it was the easiest way for him to tell when you would be on the beach. In the meantime, you drew little shapes here and there on the sand.

you looked up when you heard steady and prominent splashing in the water. you smiled and stood, walking closer to the water and shimmying off your shorts and loose comforting hoodie, leaving yourself in your two-piece swimsuit. Although you didn’t use it much for swimming, it did make you look good. It perfectly showed off your curves without showing off too much skin. It was perfect, at least in Jade's eyes…

Jade swam with the tide and let it pull him as close to you as it would before he pulled himself to you, you were well aware that he was a strong swimmer before, but this only further showed off his capabilities…
He smiled at you, leaning on his arms as his dark blueish-green tail flipped up, flickering back and forth like a cat's tail, slowly with curiosity...  It was so mesmerizing, you thought you could look at it for hours… surely you could, but you would rather spend that time talking with him, than looking at the eel's tail…

“if you keep staring at my tail like that you'll fall in the water dear,” he said, smiling at you as the tide came in again.

“I can't help it, it's so pretty,” you giggled. smiling back at him, you took his hand….
He held yours so delicately, still fascinated with human fingers because they weren't webbed. He brought your hand to his lips and lightly kissed your knuckles….

"To what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you this time my dear…?" He said as his tail flickered back and forth again…

your smile widened as you brought the small container out and opened it, pulling the various herbs and fungi from it and placing them in your lap. “I’ve brought you different types of edible herbs and fungi... I thought that since some of these don’t grow under the water, I could share them with you.”

he picked up a matsutake from the container, he looked up at you and looked at it, turning it over in his hands and pulling himself up to sit beside you. He turned the mushroom over in his hand and thoroughly inspected it before looking at you. “how do you eat it?”
