The kitten stirred against me, tiny paws kneading my chest. I'd named her PEANUT because I'd found her playing with one. She anchors me to a humanity I otherwise might forget.
Earth crumbled, Air uprooted, Fire destroyed. Water might have killed me, but I made a deal with the last Fire Elemental. We died to live – albeit uneasily - as symbionts. Hot Stuff thinks she can solve our situation.
There's a half-torn JEJUNE ad on the TRAIN that reads: "...extrapo..." "EXTRAPOLATE?" she asks.
An AI voice announces: "Next stop, Yosemite Volcanic Basin. Twenty-two hours."
Deep inside me, her smileburns.
