"Mom it's not fair!" I yell coming down the stairs with a huge black suit case filled to the brim with clothes.
"I don't care if you think it's fair or not, you still have to go." My mom argued placing her hand firmly on her hips to make sure I knew she's serious.
"Can't I just move in with Jackie?"
Jackie is my best friend, we are inseparable. Moving away would mean my life would be over.
"No, you're moving with your family."
And that was my attempt to get my mom to let me move in with my best friend. I gave up knowing there is no way I could change her mind. You see, my parents told me and my little brother, Bentley, that we are moving half way across the country to Oklahoma. There isn't much in Oklahoma. We were told this news during our last week of school. It wasn't fair to my little brother because he would just be starting high school and I was going into my senior year.
So many memories filled my mind as I walk further away from the place I can't call my home any longer; my room where I used to have sleep overs, where I would go to calm down or just to be by myself; my refuge.
As I slid into the black rental car a tear slipped from my eye. What bothered me the most was that about the move was that I would be away from everyone, my childhood friends, even family.
"Can you please explain to me why we're moving again?" I asked more in an angered tone but my voice wavered at the end.
"Your father got a better job offer, better than any he has ever gotten. So he took the opportunity. It has a better pay and hours. It would have been stupid not to take the job." My mom explained probably for the tenth time to me.
My father’s job had only started about two years ago. It involves a lot of traveling. You see, my dad is a manager, for bands, and this is the first band he's actually really excited about so they have to be good. Unfortunately, he can't tell us the band until all the papers are signed and it's official.
I snapped back into reality when a car door slammed and I jumped a bit out of my seat.
"Are you coming or not?" My dad teased.
I stepped out of the car adjusting my black V-neck and pink and white star printed shorts, then heading to the trunk of the car to pull out my carry on floral back pack and my black suit case. Dragging my legs I made my way inside the airport. My anger and sadness turned into nerves realizing that I've never been on a plane before. I followed my family through security and baggage claim. Within an hour I found myself sitting on the plane getting ready to take off for a four hour long journey.
I tried my best to sleep on the plane since last night we all camped out in our empty living room because all of our furniture and belongings were being shipped out to our new home in Oklahoma.
Two hours of trying to sleep and a movie later we finally landed in Tulsa. After we got our bags we all piled into our waiting car that was also moved down here as well. At least something felt normal. It was another hour long drive to our new home though.
Throughout the ride I sat silently in the back texting Jackie and Spencer, my closest cousin, and listening to music. When we slowed down to what I'm assuming is our new street and pulled into a sand-tanned house which in my prospective looked like every house on the street. I ripped out my head phones, jammed my phone in my shorts pocket and slug my back pack over my shoulders. I made my way towards the back of the car to grab my suitcase and head inside our new home.
As I stepped inside I noticed that our furniture was already in its place. When I stepped through the door to a little hallway painted white and a small coat closet to my left. Walking forward I found myself into a hardwood floored kitchen with blue walls, dark brown cabinets, and white marble counters, filled with stainless steel appliances. Stepping out of the kitchen there is another hallway painted the same color white as the other there is an opening to a huge living room. The living room is painted tan, with white leather couches and brown stained furniture to match the kitchen along with a grey carpet. Next to the living room is a bathroom painted green and had cream colored fixtures.
After exploring the downstairs I crept up the wooden stairs. At the landing at the top, There is a room right in front of me, which is another full bathroom, this one painted blue with cream fixtures as well. On the left is the master bed room, and another large bed room. This room was painted a pastel blue color with white furniture in the room, which meant it’s my room. On the other side of that hallway is a room painted red, making that Bentleys room. Next to Bentleys room is a guest bedroom painted a lilac color.
After exploring the upstairs, I went into my room. The carpet was a dark grey color, pastel blue walls, with a white framed bed in the corner and a desk on the other end of the room right under a window. At the far end of the room are a picture door opening to a balcony.
"This can’t be as bad as I thought it would." I thought out loud opening the doors to look out the balcony. Looking out I saw the sunset, but since the light of the sun hadn't faded yet I noticed an in-ground pool. The backyard is pretty big, bigger than my old back yard that is.
The sun started fading out so it’s almost dark out, so I headed inside to start unpacking. I grabbed my iPhone and placed it in the dock pressing play, "We Are Who We Are" by Little Mix starts blaring through the speakers.
It took about three hours to put all of the clothes away; I was exhausted after unpacking I decided to hop into the shower and go to bed. Around 10:00pm I found myself in bed drifting off to sleep in my new bed, in my new room, in my new home, in a new town, in a new state, in a new time zone. It's something to get used to, but I will eventually, hopefully.
