The Promise of Freedom

The sun rises high, the wind blows free

The land stretches far, as far as you see

The promise of freedom, a dream come true

A land where anything, is possible for you

With hope in your heart, you set out to roam

To find your place, your new home

The world was your oyster, your fate in your hand

You were free to chart your own path in this land

But the promise of freedom, was not all it seemed

The dream that you sought, was not as it gleamed

The world was harsh, and the people unkind

The freedom you sought, was hard to find

As time wore on, you grew tired and worn

The dream of freedom, had left you forlorn

You realized too late, what it truly meant

Freedom came with a cost, a heavy descent

And so you stand, alone in the land

With nothing to show, but a heart full of sand

The promise of freedom, a dream turned to ash

A bitter end, to a once hopeful dash.
