Ged connects with the archetypes of knowledge and war. He is slight of build with exquisitely plain bronze armor. He carries a satchel with maps of all the known world. Ged has two hawks tattooed on his arm. He is known to deploy his hawks, Farsi and Nersi, to scout the battlefield. Farsi identifies enemies and Nersi allies. When the return, Farsi, Nersi, De (Ged's mouse) and Je (Ged's bear) all converse to develop a plan. Ged represents the need for information and conversation in the planning and execution of war. Ged was said to be born blind. His first experience in combat tactics was in developing strategies to beat his sister in a fight

Ged has a solid relationship with his brother Jairce, but he and his sister, Henra, often disagree, with his sister wanting to strike quickly and decisively while Ged is still planning.
