⚠️no spoilers in this chapter. However, Toko is only in the manga so far, so it's kinda a spoiler for her character existing.
The last bell of the day rang, releasing you from school. You rushed through the hallways and towards the school entrance. When you got out, you made your way towards the main sidewalk, keeping an eye out for your friend, Toko.
Toko had said she wanted to talk to you after school. You had no idea what it was for, but were excited regardless. Toko was one of your best friends. Hopefully she had something fun to tell you.
Maybe she wanted to hang out. School had kept you both so busy lately, you'd only interacted in class. But if she wanted to hang out, what was the point of meeting up? Couldn't she just text you?
A terrible possibility occurred to you. What if.. what if she found out about my crush?
You'd liked Toko for a while now, but you were pretty confident that you were good at hiding it. She couldn't have found out. But Toko was smart. Dammit. There was no way she'd ever like you back, you had to hide it!
"Y/N! Over here!" You turned to see Toko waving at you from the school steps. You hurried over, nervous thoughts hastily shoved away.
"Hey Toko. You wanted to talk?" You ask, looking at her. Toko looked slightly nervous, though you couldn't fathom why. Was something wrong? Is that why she needed to talk to you?
"Not here," she replied, grabbing your hand. "Come on.". Toko led you away hurriedly. You were dragged along behind her.
Toko brought you to a park not far from the school. Some people were in the park, but Toko led you away from them. She stopped at a bridge, and leaned on the rail.
The bridge was over a small koi pond. You saw a few of them darting around. Cherry trees draped their blossoms over the edge of the bridge, the bright pink a reminder of spring.
"This looks like a place out of a shoujo anime." You comment, awe-struck by the beauty. Toko dropped your hand and looked around.
"Yeah," she agreed, uncharacteristically quiet.
"Are you ok, Toko-chan?" you ask, concerned. Toko was loud, bold. She could be quiet sometimes, but never as long as this.
"Yeah." she answered, avoiding looking at you. Toko seemed to collect herself, and looked up at you.
A small breeze ruffled her black-and-vermillion hair. It blew a few blossoms loose from the trees, swirling them through the air. It really is like a shoujo anime.
"Y/N, I," Toko paused, and took a deep breath. You looked at her expectantly, waiting impatiently for her to finish. "I like you!"
The last part of her sentence was almost shouted, startling you. It took a whole minute for the content of her sentence to process. You simply stared at Toko blankly, unsure if you heard her right. Did Toko... confess her love... to me??
"I understand if you don't like me back," Toko said quietly, losing any earlier confidence. "I can leave, if you want." She inched away from the rail, and looked like she was about to bolt.
"Wait! To, Toko-chan!" you yelled, grabbing her wrist. "I like you back!"
"Really?" she asked, face slowly lighting up.
"Yeah!" you replied, feeling happier than you had in a while. Toko likes me! Toko!
"Why didn't you ever say anything?" she demanded jokingly. That's the Toko I know!
"I figured I didn't have a chance," you chuckled sheepishly, "and I was afraid your brother would try to kill me."
"Yoshiteru? No way." Toko laughed at the thought. You smiled at her, happy you could make her laugh like that.
"Oh, I almost forgot," Toko added, "I have a family dinner thing. I have to go.". She pulled your arm, bringing you towards her. Toko kissed your cheek quickly, and turned to leave.
You stood alone on the bridge, cherry blossoms falling around you. Toko likes me!! Toko!!!
