The first getaway

While the cold wind was messing with my hair, I sat down on the highest building's rooftop of the city.

- I actually did it, I spoke to myself out loud, I actually went out successfully.

Every minutes that went by were precious, I didn't go out there to not do anything and watch the time fly by. The outfit was on and the only thing left to do was to cause a bit of troubles. My heartbeats were inconsistent and quick, causing me to be unable to use my brain fully for some time. I looked down at my hands and made them glow slightly, to prepare them before use then looked back up. The building offered me a good view of the whole city, making it easier for me to choose what to do. A certain area in the far back drew my attention, because of the lack of people there without being particularly empty.

- Suspiciously easy, but it'll do.

I went down safely and made it to the place i saw not long ago, though being sneaky about it wasn't easy nor very successful. A small shop was still opened, luckily for me, but not for them. I took a small breath and entered the shop, forgetting about cameras. I distinctly heard the employees muffled laughthers, but i didn't give any attention to them. I was instead looking around for an electrical outlet.

- Excuse me sir, an employee walked to me, is there anything I can do to help you?

- No, but thank you for offering.

Even if she was trying to hide it, I could easily see she was holding back in a laugh. I soon spotted one near the entrance and made my way over. While I was walking I could almost feel every pair of eyes around staring at me, a pretty weird sensation. When I arrived in front of the outlet, I crouched and put my fingers on it and sent a strong wave of electricity, making the power go off in the whole building. Soon after, panicked screams were resonating in the room, which was my opportunity to leave. While I was running away, I heard sirens go off behind me.

- Thats why this place isn't really populated, I noted, it's under high supervision and I fell right in that trap.

I continued running until I reached an alleyway and hid in the shadows, thinking I successfully escaped, until my phone started ringing. I panicked and threw it quickly on the floor, breaking it, hoping they didnt hear it, but it was too late. My heart was racing as I started running again, without exactly knowing where to. My only goal was to stay safe until I could go home, but that required time, which I didn't really have. After a few minutes, I slowed down and walked around the city, staying in the shadows, while waiting for the sirens to stop completely. I was so focused on them that I flinched when rain started to pour down, giving me an idea.

I made my way up to the nearest building's rooftop and looked at where the car they were using was and hoped something contradictory to what I was wishing barely five minutes ago. I was hoping they would see me, as I raised the palm of my hand towards the sky and used the rain clouds to my advantage. After a few seconds, thunder struck the police car, shutting it down completely. I couldn't tell if the humans in the car were fine but I didn't care.

  - I did it? I actually can't believe I did it, I managed to say out of excitment. That feels...relieving.

I stood there a few more minutes, celebrating my small victory over the authorities. The rain became heavier and it soon turned into a thunderstorm, lightning hitting the ground here and there. I looked up and let the rain touch my face where my mask wasn't covering my skin. From all the different emotions I could feel in this moment, relief was the one standing out the most out of the mess my brain was in. I looked back at the city one last time, my eyes filled with hope, as I was one step closer to making my best friends wish a reality.

Once I was on my way home, the realization of my actions towards my phone earlier hit me. What if Enzo was the one who called me? That single thought made all the efforts I did tonight fly out my brain, as I began running home. The events weren't that far back so my breathing cycle wasn't completely back to normal yet. The rain started getting out of control, making my path harder to figure out. After barely a minute my whole outfit was soaked, making it heavy causing me to trip out of exhaustion.

The distinct sound of someone's laugh caught me off guard, as I looked around to see where it came from. I was surrouned by tall buildings that were far enough from each other to let the rain clearly show it's presence, not helping me find who laughed. I got back up on my feet and looked around a second time and still got the same results. Frustrated and still frightened about earlier, I started walking away in the same direction I was going before tripping. Another laugh made me stop in my tracks and turn.

- Either you're new in this city... or you really suck at this.

A faint silhouette was now standing in front of me, I couldn't make out how they looked because of the rain being intense. The words they had just pronounced felt surreal to my brain. They knew I had never done this, not that I had been trying to hide it, but that they directly told me.

- Your second guess is the correct one, I replied as my voice quivered, I have been living here for as long as I can remember.

- Thought so.

I looked at the ground for a few seconds trying to figure out who that could be before looking back up and immediately noticing the silhouette was gone.

- Wait !

I stood there for another minute, expecting something to happen, but nothing did. Disappointed, I started heading back home with a slower paste than before. The rain eventually calmed down as I kept walking and eventually the building I now live in appeared in the horizon. I made my way towards the monument and entered by the same place I had exited earlier, making sure no one saw me. My heartbeat gradually increased as I silently entered my small bedrooms window.

I changed and threw my costume somewhere hidden before sitting on my bed. As my room was filled with silence, Enzo's television could be faintly heard. Some time passed and my breathing turned steady. I closed my window and looked around my room before going out of it, without paying too much attention to how much noise I was making along the way anymore.

I only had to do a slight turn and I was already at his door. I anxiously put my hand up to the door and hesitated before knocking, something I had never done before. I knocked three times with a few milliseconds in between and waited for some sort of answer, but all I heard was the continuation of his show.

- Enzo ? I called out to him.

Still no answers. I was getting worried about his silence and decided to open his door, but as i tried to open his door I found out he had locked it. My heart started pounding as I tried convincing myself he might've simply fallen asleep, until I heard a loud bang coming from the inside of his now silent room.
