Worth it?

Not once had this ever happened, my heartbeat quickened as I waited a few more seconds for an answer that never came. I reached out to open the door a second time but with the same results than before. I took a step back. I walked to the living room and started messily searching for a screwdriver, a hammer, anything that could help me open the door.

- Where were you? A familiar voice said.

I flinched and dropped what I had in my hands. I stood there facing the opposite direction from where he was standing for a few more seconds before slowly turning to face him. Enzo's expression looked like a mix of anger and disappointment, the lack of lightning in the room making it even worse.

- You sound like a mom, I said trying to change the subject.

- I'm not messing around Theo, his voice was filled with reproach. Where were you?

- Didn't you see my text? I was outside, my voice shook ever so slightly with every word spoken.

His expression got harder to read as he looked over his pockets while taking his phone. I stared at his phone as he typed his code and opened an app I couldn't see from where I was. Soon enough, he turned his phone so I could see it clearly while he talked.

- Ten missed calls. Ten Theo, his voice slowly filled with anger. I've called you ten time. Never have you declined any and if you missed one you would call right after.

- I left my phone at home, I lied.

- Mhm? Where? Show me it.

I sighed and looked at him, not liking how this conversation was evolving. He stood in front of me, surely waiting for me to pull out my phone. Either way I would have to lie.

- What are you waiting for?

- Can we please talk about it tomorrow?

- What for, I want the answer either...

- I want to talk about it tomorrow, I cut him off, because this conversation is heating up and I want us to talk clearly.

Something in his brain must've clicked after I had finished speaking. His eyes opened slightly more and his mouth curved in a small guilty smile. He put his phone back in his pocket and walked up to me to give me a friendly nudge on my shoulder.

- You're right. I'll go cool down in my room, he said looking at the ground. Good night.

- Good night.

I walked to my room and I assume he did the same, even though his door was locked. Considering what happened I continued to assume he knew how to unlock it. I closed my door gently and sat on my bed. The sounds around me all seemed way louder than usual. I could feel my heart beating faster than usual in my ear and the silence felt overwhelming. All my thoughts were scrambled and my breathing cycle quickened.

Right as I thought tears would start streaming down my cheeks, I heard a knock on my door, snapping me out of my mind.

- Hey Theo, his muffled voice said through the door. I didn't want to bother you about this but I can't find the screwdriver.

I rubbed my face with my hands with hope that I would appear normal and opened the door with a smile.

- It's never a bother, though I don't have it with me.

- I was wondering if you could try with your power since you can make it solid in some way?

The question threw me off as I didn't think about ever doing that, it wouldve saved me some time earlier and maybe that whole situation wouldn't have happened. Maybe I should've...
