FEBRUARY 2018 - LOS ANGELES
Eliana had locked herself into the set's changing rooms, her cellphone covering one of her ears as she sat in the corner, legs crossed on the floor. The girl had troubles focusing on the voice at the other end of the line as she could clearly hear the amused shouts and shrieks of her friends who engaged in their monthly Splashing War, annoyed that she was missing parts of it. Eliana's mother muttered words, instructions to her distant daughter who hadn't realized the trembling in her voice. She would never say it out loud to the girl, but Annie missed dearly having her daughter around the house. Without her, the woman felt like she had no purpose as Victor had doubled his hours at work to pay for all the plane tickets and helping Eliana with her expenses in Los Angeles."No, you don't have to come in this weekend, filming only starts Monday." The brown haired girl stated to her mother, in hope that she would take her suggestion to stay back in Moonbeam so that she could have the whole three days with her friends, without Annie's judgmental comments.
"Are you sure? I don't mind keeping you company, make sure you're comfortably settled in the apartment." Annie insisted, her voice laced with desperation of getting away from her empty home. Victor, once again, away for the weekend on a business trip and leaving her behind, all alone. But Eliana's decision was firmed and final as Annie gradually caught up with the idea that her daughter was growing up and needed less from her. The mother's heart silently breaking to a future where Eliana would fly around the world, the dream career that they had both been working on finally pushing her to the top of the industry. "Alright then, I'll leave you to it. Take care."
"Yeah, yeah. Say hi to dad for me." Eliana quickly said, hanging up the phone before her mother could say anything to last their conversation longer. When unlocking the stall she had been hiding, she stumbled on her drenched young friends, all entering the room as she understood their game was over. Her brows knitted together, Eliana's shoulders dropped in deception of missing their last Splashing War before filming begin. "Who won?"
"Where were you?" Bailey exclaimed, throwing her arms around the girl's neck, soaking right back the girl's wetsuit who had ultimately dried during her call.
"We won." Britain walked up behind the Martin girl, whispering the words in her ear, causing her to groan at the loss of her team. Both Jamie, Sam and Britain teasing the loosing team with their playful comments as Zoe tried to shush their childish reaction. Eliana twirled around, breaking her and Bailey's embrace as she covered Trinity's eyes before gesturing a middle finger toward the boys, the girl being the worst sore loser of the group while all of them gasped at the motion, a smirk on their faces.
"What's going on?" Trinity asked, her tone laced with confusion yet a smile could still be seen on her lips. "Is Lili doing the bad finger again?" Everyone crackled a laugh at the young girl's words, Eliana realizing that her cast mates knew her better than she thought. The seventeen year old girl hastily dropped to her knees and grabbed Trinity by the shoulders, the young girl's eyes rapidly blinking from adjusting back her vision to the light. Before Eliana could say anything in her defense, the black haired girl stretched her hand in her direction, folding her fingers back and forth. "Swear jar."
"But I didn't even say anything." Eliana protested, throwing her arms in the air but the girl knew that Trinity wouldn't let it pass, her arms now crossed as she gave her a proud smirk. Eliana sighed whilst getting up from her kneeled position, reaching for her bag that hung onto the hooks by the door, looking for the dollar she owed the petite girl. "I only have a loonie." Eliana handed the coin to Trinity who scrutinized it in the palm of her hand, curiously frowning at the Canadian dollar.
"How about we celebrate our diving certification," Sam started, turning his head to Eliana, playfully grinning at her before continuing, "and Splashing War win, by going out to dinner?" Everyone cheered to the idea of getting out of the apartment block for a night as training was all they had been doing for the past months, taking most of their time. "It's on us." Sam added, nudging Zoe's arm who stood besides him, happily smiling to the kids she had grew found over the months and missing her own. Rapidly after Sam's words, the whole group changed themselves back into their normal and dried clothes and for those who lived at the same block, they walked toward it. The group had agreed on meeting at the restaurant later that night which let Bailey, Jack, Britain, Jamie and Eliana have time to hang around in the common room. The younger ones used that moment to catch up on their homework and school lessons as Jamie and Eliana both laid on different ends of the couch, legs intertwined together as they focused on their cellphone. Only faint grunts from Britain could be heard in the room, the rest of them enjoying the comfortable silence yet the boy's frustrated sighs seemed to only caught Eliana's attention as she noticed he struggled with his school work.
