Lane's POV:
The last couple days have been fun getting to know his family his dad isn't anything like I thought he would be. I am also glad they were so great about us being together and that he is letting me pay for everything. Had they done the go fund me like they wanted I would have just donated what they needed and more for the funeral. I would do anything for Deacon and his family. Hell I love him so of course I would do just about anything for him and money is no issue.
We are currently driving to the funeral home for the calling hours. Deacon doesn't know it but daddy and papa have decided to drive up to be with him through it all. Deacon has gotten really close with my dads while he has been staying with us. Papa (Lander) more than anyone mostly because he works for him I'm sure. They told me they wouldn't miss being here for him for nothing. It will also be help to me so I don't feel as useless during all of this. I know his mothers death is hitting him really hard. It would me too if one my dads ever died. Even the thought of it is enough to bring a tear to my eye. So I can't imagine what Deacon must be feeling right now considering he feels he is the reason his mother is dead.
When we pull up to the place his dad, brother, and Julies is already here. We left later than the rest of them, I had a really hard time getting Deacon out of bed this morning. He just wouldn't get out of bed, kept crying and blaming himself. Finally I got him out of bed and got him into shower. I had told him we had to go say goodbye and if he didn't he would regret that even more than he is already regretting everything else. The drive over was completely quite he hasn't said a word all morning just looks out the window with a far off look on his face. I let him know we are here as I get out and go around to open his door. He doesn't look at me as he slides out of the truck. It is almost like he is on auto pilot. I tell him we should get going as I grab his hand and drag in towards the funeral home towards his family.
When we get to the door Julies is standing there smiling and tells us to go inside that Deacon's dad and Daniel are inside waiting for us. I pull him with me inside the funeral home to find his dad and brother standing by the casket. Deacon freezes behind me once he sees it pulling us to a stop. His eyes seem to glaze over and he starts breathing heavy. Before he whispers 'I can't do this' and pulls free from me darting out of the funeral home. I am hot on his heals, in the back ground you can hear his dad calling after us. When we get outside he doubles over and starts panting harder. I rub his back as he tries to work through his emotions. Soon after his father walks out after us.
"Son are you okay?" He looks back at his dad and says.
"Dad I can't do it. I can't go in there. I can't see her like that. It's all my fault. She's dead because of me, I just can't go in there." He is crying by the last of it. His dad gives him a gentle smile before he comes over pulling him into a hug and telling him it isn't his fault. He tells him how his mother has been having heart problems since before he was born and in the more recent years they had gotten worse. That he wasn't at fault at all. That her heart was bond to give out at some point. That the doctors said that it was really amazing she had lived as long as she had. He looks at his dad with wide eyes.
"Why didn't she ever tell us? Why didn't you?" Deacon asks.
"We didn't want you boys to worry. We wanted you to live your lives the way you wanted and not to be tied down to waiting to stay close to home in case something happened. We wanted you to be free from the worry. Your mom wanted you to be happy." Daniel must have come out at some point during the conversation based off the shocked look on his face.
"So mom died from her heart condition?" Daniel asks causing dad to nod. Daniel turns to Deacon as tears gather in his eyes.
"Deac I'm so sorry for what I said to you. For blaming you for everything." Daniel tells him pulling him into a hug. The bother cry in each others arms for a while before pulling away.
