Chapter 2: Meeting

Lane's POV:

This is the sixth pack I've checked this week for my mate with no luck. I mark off the black moon pack making it 127 packs I've checked total now. I only have two more packs left, the Blood Rose Pack and the Green Fog Pack both of which I hope I don't find my mate in. One is known for being killers and the other known for being weak. But if he or she isn't in a pack it will mean they are human and I also don't want that either. It really is a lose, lose either way, at least to me it is. My brother on the other hand has a human mate which he whole heartly loves, I just don't get it. Humans are weak, useless, and can't protect themselves.

We head off to the next pack the Blood Rose first, and to my not so surprise my mate isn't here either which as I said I am kinda glad, I don't want a killer for a mate. So now onto the weak pack Green Fog. When we pull up all the pack members cower in fear. Fucking wimps I mutter to myself as I walk up to their Alpha who also cowers a little.

"Hello Alpha Jake, we talked on the phone about me coming here to see if my mate happened to be in your pack. I'm Alpha Lane from the Crescent Moon Pack." I say with authority in my voice standing tall.

"Ah yes, I do remember I have gathered all of our mateless members, they are this way. Follow me please." He says and I do just that following him into a big room, what I would assume is their banquet hall.

"Go ahead Alpha Lane, have a look around and see if you are able to find your mate." He says, I sniff around but I don't smell anything that could be my mate and my wolf doesn't stir for any of these wolves. So that just means my mate is human, I think with distaste as a scowl slips onto my face.

"My mate isn't here, thank you for your time Alpha Jake. It was nice meeting you."

"You as well, I do hope you find your mate soon good luck." He says, we shake hands and part ways. On the way home we decide to stop and get dinner at a little diner on the out skirts of West Virginia which is where the last two packs I had to check were located. When we go through the door that's when it hits me I smell the most intoxicating sent, my mate. It smells of flowers and cedar.

"Mate." I send through the pack line, I get a lot of cheers going up in the link. My pack warriors look over at me with a smile.

"Who is it, Alpha?" Charlie asks.

I look all around the diner until my eyes finally land on him. It's a male and he is for sure human. I can smell he isn't a werewolf. Damn it. He looks up as if he can feel my eyes on him and his face is red and splotchy, has he been crying? I walk towards him and slide into the booth right in front of his. We order our food and the whole time I don't take my eyes off him. My wolf growls mate to me and I shake him off. I know he is my mate but he's human. Based off the way he looks he doesn't look weak at all, actually pretty strong for a human. The waitress goes to his table to give him his bill he pulls out cash to pay for it. She bats her eye lashes at him flirting with our mate I growl lowly.

She asks for his phone number and he just gives her a look that says get the fuck away from me which she does after blowing off at him. I smile at this, our mate has a feisty side. He stands up a little shaky on his feet making my head turn to the side unsure as to why he is so unsteady until I see it. He has a prosthetic leg. He goes to leave and I watch as someone puts their foot out to trip him which sends him falling towards the ground before I can even tell my body to stay put I am out of the booth catching my mate in our arms. Shocks go flying as soon as our skin touches making me want to moan but I hold back. I can tell by the look on his face that he is in pain. Did this just happen to him? He stands up turning a glare to the man that tripped him.
