Jake followed the Hunter deep into the woods, trying to keep up with his long strides. The trees grew denser and the air grew cooler as they went further in. He could hear the sound of birds and insects, but no other signs of life.
After an hour of walking, they came to a clearing. In the center of it was a large cave, with mossy rocks and vines covering the entrance. The Hunter signaled for Jake to stay back and approached the cave cautiously, his crossbow at the ready.
Jake watched in awe as the Hunter disappeared inside the cave. He waited anxiously, wondering what he would find. After a few minutes, the Hunter emerged, looking grim.
"It's the lair," he said, his voice low. "The monster is here."
Jake felt a shiver run down his spine. He had never been so close to a real monster before. He wondered if he was ready for this.
"Stay here," said the Hunter, handing him a small knife. "If anything happens to me, run back to town and warn the others. And don't come back here."
Jake nodded, feeling a lump in his throat. He watched as the Hunter disappeared into the cave again, his footsteps echoing in the darkness.
Jake waited anxiously, listening for any sounds of struggle. He wondered if the Hunter would come back alive or if the monster would get him.
After what felt like an eternity, the Hunter emerged from the cave, carrying a large object covered in a sheet. Jake could hear the sound of something heavy dragging behind him.
"Come," said the Hunter, gesturing for Jake to follow him. "We have to bury the beast."
Jake followed him obediently, feeling both relieved and disappointed. He had wanted to see the monster with his own eyes and prove his bravery, but now it seemed like the Hunter had taken care of everything.
As they walked back to town, Jake couldn't resist asking:
"What was under the sheet?"
The Hunter looked at him sternly.
"Something you shouldn't see," he said. "Trust me, boy. You don't want to know what the monster looked like."
Jake felt a chill run down his spine. He wondered what kind of monster could scare even the Hunter.
When they reached the edge of the forest, the Hunter turned to him.
"Remember, boy. This is not a game. The woods are full of dangers that you can't even
