It was a hot summer day in Maplewood, and the school year had just ended. A group of teenagers were hanging out by the creek, trying to beat the heat. They were bored and restless, looking for something to do.
"Hey, let's play Truth or Dare!" said Sarah, a pretty blonde with a mischievous grin.
"Ugh, that game is so lame," groaned Mark, a tall jock with a buzz cut. "Can't we do something more exciting?"
"Like what?" asked Emily, a shy girl with glasses.
"I don't know, something dangerous," said Jake, a scruffy rebel with a skateboard.
"I heard there's a monster in the woods," said Sarah, lowering her voice. "A creature that eats people and animals."
The others looked at her skeptically.
"Come on, Sarah, you're not serious, are you?" said Emily.
"I am serious," said Sarah. "My cousin's friend's sister's boyfriend saw it with his own eyes. It's like a giant wolf, but with glowing eyes and razor-sharp claws."
"Sounds like a werewolf to me," said Mark, rolling his eyes.
"Or a demon," said Emily, shuddering.
"Whatever it is, I bet we could take it down," said Jake, grinning.
The others looked at him in disbelief.
"You're crazy, Jake," said Sarah. "No one can take down a monster like that."
"Unless you have a silver bullet," said Mark, chuckling.
"Or a magic sword," said Emily, giggling nervously.
