 Chapter One

A loud roar of a mustang sounded behind me. "Hey baby!" Someone called. "Need a ride?" Another boy yelled. I whirled around and squinted into the light. When I saw who it was a scoffed and turned away. "Now, now! Don't be like that!" The third boy yelled. When I didn't reply, they all mumbled and drove off. "Greaser!" I heard one of them yell. Yeah, yeah, you caught me. I'm a Greaser. But so what? Being a Grease is better then a damn Soc. Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Lidia Taylor, but my friends call me Liddy. I'm seventeen and five foot five. I have dark, curly brown hair with bangs that touch my eyelashes, and, as people tell me, a quote 'heart shaped face, with bow shaped lips' unquote. What the fuck does that even mean!?

When I reached the park in Tulsa a warm wind washed over me. The smell of honeysuckle and rain lingered in the air. I noticed the large, cement fountain and sat down on the edge. The water was clear and I could see my reflection. I stared at my pale face. "Get away!" A boy ran pass me nearly shoving me in the fountain. "Jesus, kid! Watch it!" I yelled. He continued to run and scream. I finally realized he was being chased by three Soc's. "Oh come on!" I huffed. Standing up and slowly walked towards the Soc's. "Hey, douche bags!"  The three of them turned and I bit my bottom lip. Why the fuck did I just do that!? I thought. What the fuck am I supposed to do now! Thinking on my feet I made a fist and smashed a Soc's face into it. The other two didn't notice and continued to pin the boy to the ground. Shoving the Soc onto the ground I walked up to the other two. "You wanna know a little something?" Both looked up. "Don't mess with a Greaser." I kicked one so hard in the ribs he rolled off the boy and I drilled the other in the groin. I grabbed the boys collar and hauled him up. "Lets go!" I giggled, grabbing his hand and running off. We beat it out of the park, past some kids playing tag and onto the street. "Thank you." The boy smiled.

"Hey, no problem kid. Here to help." I laughed.

"Who are you anyways?" He asked awkwardly.

"Lidia Taylor. But you can call me Liddy. My friends do anyways." I replied. The boy bit his bottom lip.

"How old are you?"

"Sixteen. What about you?"

"Fourteen." He blinked. "You don't look sixteen."

"I don't?"

"No... You look about eighteen. One of my friends is eighteen and you look his age." He explained.

"Is that a bad thing?" I wondered.

"No..."

"Hey!" I poked him. "I never got your name!"

"Ponyboy Curtis." He smiled. "Where do you live?" Ponyboy asked.

"I don't..." I blushed. Pony looked confused. "My parents are always fighting and I couldn't stand it. So one day I told them to back off, and they didn't like that. So they started beating on me, and I ran out. Now I sleep in lots, and stuff." I explained, kind of embarrassed.

"Hey," He said noting my red cheeks. "It's okay. I have a friend like that! Johnnycake. His real name is Johnny Cade, but you know." I nodded. There was a pause that seemed like an eternity. "If you like, you can stay at my house." Pony offered. I was a little stunned. I just met this boy, and he's offering me to live at his house? "Uh..."

"Come on! It won't be weird. You'd have people your age."

"Really?"

"Yeah. My two brothers. There's Sodapop, and Darry. Darry's twenty and Soda's seventeen. Cause I know you ain't wanna hang around with a youngster like me..."
