The man walked over to the table and motioned for me to come over too.
I quickly walked over to the table and stood next to the man. The table was a dark brown and one of the only things in the room that wasn't covered in dust. It was actually pretty clean. There was nothing on the table, which I found odd. All of these huge stacks of papers, and not one single page looked like it had touched the table.
I placed my hands on top of the table.
“Why do you have this random table in the middle of the room?” I asked the man.
He moved my hands off of the table.
“It’s not a random table Orbit,” he said as he reached under the table.
After a few seconds of him searching under the table, there was a click noise, and the whole top of the table folded into itself revealing a huge computer screen. It appeared to be all touchscreen as there was no visible buttons around the screen.
The man touched the screen, and right as he did, the whole screen shone in a blinding blue light.
“Welcome Mr. Hudson,” the computer said, in a flat feminine voice.
I looked up at the man.
“Is your name Mr. Hudson?” I asked.
The man sighed and turned his head to look at me.
“No, that is not my name. Mr. Hudson is the creator of this computer. He is also the creator of The Games,” he explained.
“The Games?” I asked, still looking up at him.
The man turned back to the computer and opened up a video file.
“Just watch the video. This will explain everything,” he said as he pressed the ‘play’ button.
A short, skinny man appeared on the screen. He had long blonde hair that was neatly tied up into a bun on the top of his head, and a short blonde beard that didn't even go past the bottom of his chin. He was wearing what looked like a long purple flower dress, covered in small blue flowers. The sleeves on the dress were short, but went past his shoulders.
“Hello freaks and welcome to The Games,” the skinny man said directly to the camera.
“Is he a girl or a boy?” I asked as I looked up at the man next to me.
The man put his large hand on top of my head, and turned it back down to the screen.
“Just keep watching the video,” he said.
I continued watching.
The skinny blonde man moved closer to the camera.
“If you are watching this video, you have been chosen. Chosen to save the world,” he whispered to the camera.
He turned around to reveal a huge river full of smoking red liquid.
“Right in front of me is the last and final stage of The Games, the lava pit. Or, as I like to call it, The Floor Is Lava game!” He exclaimed.
The camera panned out and showed a bunch of rocks sticking out of the lava, most of them more than 6 feet appart from eachother.
The man turned back to the camera.
“Now you might be wondering, ‘how exactly is this going to save the world?’ Well good thing I am here to tell you. The Games consist of 5 rounds, and over 100 people will be participating. If you prove to me that you are strong enough to survive, you will be brought back to my lab and your powers will be turned into energy for the whole planet. If you choose to not play in The Games, or if I think you arent strong enough to survive the power extraction, you will be hunted down and killed by my Army. If no one survives The Games, the world will slowly freeze and everyone you love with die,” the man explained, somehow with a huge smile on his face.
Suddenly the video ended, and the whole screen went black.
I turned back to the man.
“Wait, you said that if I didn't play in ine floor is lava game, I would live and just die as the world did too!” I exclaimed.
The man looked down at me.
“Yeah, I forgot about that part-” He said as he pressed the button to close the table.
“And, I thought there was only one game? He said they were 5 rounds??” I yelled.
The man took a step back from the table.
“I never said that there was only one game,” he said.
I took a deep breath and clenched my fists together.
“Fine. But the power part, superpowers power the whole world?” I asked.
“Have you ever wondered how the whole world doesn't freeze or how we get power for electricity?” He asked me.
I looked up at the light on the ceiling.
“The sun?” I answered.
The man shook his head.
“That is all just a cover for the real way Orbit,” he said as he put his hands inhis pockets.
I looked back the the man.
“This is all absolutely crazy,” I exclaimed.
“I know it is Orbit, but I truly believe that you are the strongest one who can save the world for another 2 thousand years. It is not often that someone gets the ability to fly, and that is the exact power needed to win the games. So now, the question remains, are you in Orbit Carter?” The man asked.
I nodded.
“I’m in.”
