My boyfriend, Steve and I are at the drive in. They're showing classic horror movies every weekend in October. He's really not into scary movies, not like it mattered as we were making out more than watching the movie. We've been together for 8 months, I think I'm in love with him. He's not really my type and I'm definitely not his but for some reason we're really great together.
He was kissing my neck when I looked over his shoulder to see an older couple staring at us and shaking their heads.
"Steve, stop..." I said, pushing him back.
He groaned, "what's wrong?"
I adjusted my jacket, "they're staring at us..." I said, pointing to the other car.
He rolled his eyes, "they're probably just jealous because they don't have a sex drive anymore". I shook my head.
"We could go somewhere else..." He said, pushing my hair back and smiling.
Pulling onto a desolate dead end road, Steve cracked the windows and we climbed into the back. I kept looking out the window, afraid a cop was going to find us.
"Liz, come on, no one's going to find us." Steve said, unzipping my jeans.
Steve was my first, not my first kiss, I kissed my best friend Eddie at midnight on New Years Eve in 1979 when I was 13. I don't know if that really counts as a first kiss, right now I'm just trying to distract myself from the thought of an oncoming car disrupting the magic that Steve is performing between my legs right now.
Once we both finished we were kissing, I kept looking at my watch. "Babe, it's almost midnight"
He blew out a puff of air. "Your mom is probably in bed, completely unaware that you're not home yet..."
I laughed, "I love you..." I closed my eyes, I shouldn't have said that....
"I love you too". Steve said, kissing me.
On my birthday, October 8th Steve took me to my favorite restaurant, however he was acting strange. He'd been acting strange for the past couple weeks. I just thought maybe he was going through something but I decided to forget it. He kept looking behind me, I took a glance and saw a girl. I didn't know the girl but she was smiling at him.
"Do you know her?" I asked.
He shook his head, "no...." I didn't believe him.
The next week we barely talked, I was so confused. Why was he acting so weird? I couldn't stand his friends, Tommy and Karen so I confided in my best girl friend, Nancy.
"I just don't understand, everything was fine and all of a sudden he's acting weird."
Nancy listened, looking at me empathetically. "Guys are weird Liz..." I laughed and nodded.
Friday night I asked him what we were doing tomorrow, Saturday was always date night.
"I don't know, I might go somewhere with my dad." Steve would never turn down sex, why is he doing this? I didn't protest, although I was upset.
Sunday morning I called him. He was quiet, I kept asking him questions and he kept giving one word answers.
I got fed up, "okay, what the hell is going on? You're acting like you don't care..."
He was quiet for a moment and then sighed, "I wanna break up..."
I was shocked, "what?" is all I could say.
"This isn't working out anymore, it's over...." He said.
"Wait, Steve....what do you...." he hung up. "Steve?? Steve?!" I slammed the phone down.
