Dealing With It

(Y/N)-

The time period is noon as I walk through the streets of the shopping district, glancing time to time at the faceless merchants and shop keepers. Even though they don't have faces, I could still make out their physiognomies. To my right an old woman with a wrinkly smile hands some bread over her booth's counter to a small, energetic girl around the age of eight. To my left, I could see street performers and shop advertisers determined to bring in an audience. Looking at all these people, I could not help but feel sad and slightly angered that the people of wonderland believe that life is simply replaceable. What I see now is proof that it isn't! I guess not everyone in Wonderland is going to listen to my preach on life though, huh? But still...

"Hey (Y/N)! How's it going?!" Said a familiar male voice.

I turn to see Ace with a happy-go-lucky smile wave at me as if his aura was made up of flowers and sparkles. For a second I almost forgot he was a dangerous killer, but then I saw his cloak. "Oh everything's well and fine, I'm just picking up some necessities for the tower, nothing interesting."

He looks at me silently.

"What?" I question.

"Do you like Julius?"

"H-How did that get brought up?!"

He laughs "Whoa (Y/N) no need in getting flustered. It just seems that recently you seem like Julius's wife."

I blush slightly "W-Well I'm not, so perish the thought. I just care about his health. Also, he seems to be the most sane person in wonderland and doesn't sexually harass me like some people."

Ace laughs "I would never sexually harass you (Y/N), that's not knightly. I just tried to listen to your heart that one time."

"A-Ace you're so-"

His attention suddenly shifts to something else. "Hold that thought." And with that he went into the direction of the old lady's booth while putting on his mask. He turned to the little girl. "I think you have something that belongs to me."

The girl shivered "I-I don't know what you're talking about!" She threw the bread at him and attempts to make a dash. It didn't take but a few seconds for ace to pull out his sword and catch up to her- "ACE NO!!!" I scream, but it was to late. The little girl lay motionless on the ground. I cover my mouth in shock and run over to the body. Her hands tightened around an object as I got close. "ACE WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!"

He bent over and snatched the item from the girl's bloody hands "For this of course. She ran so I had to strike her down. Not my fault that she resisted."

The girl's body vanished and turned into a clock. Ace picked it up.

I shook with rage and stood up. "Not you're fault, huh?" I said bitterly.

"Yeah, accidentally killed her in one blow."

I snapped. I pushed my finger on his chest and looked him in the eye. "You didn't have to pull out you sword in the first place you idiot! Don't you see that this girl could still be alive if you hadn't pulled out that damn sword!"

He pushed away my finger and sighed "Oh yeah you're an outsider. Look, everyone in wonderland are cold-hearted killers. We have different views on life and that's a fact you're just going to have to deal with." He hugged me briefly "But don't worry I'll remember to not kill in front of you next time, okay?"

"..."

"Well anyway." He says rubbing the back of his neck. "I have to go. Maybe that'll give you some time to cool down... See you later (Y/N)"

And with that he left, leaving me in my thoughts. He was right. Wonderland had no value for life, and that's a fact that I'll just have to live with.

I look at the pool of blood where the girl's body once lay. "But I don't want to deal with it..."
