"Ah, Zack and Emma! What a pleasure of you to join us!" Nathan says sarcastically.
"Sorry! People were SO slow on the highway," Emma replies.
"Take a seat, please," Nathan orders. Even though Nathan is only a year older than me, he acts like he's the boss of every single factor there is.
"So, we are gathered here today to talk about the issue of frequent generation skippers, am I correct?" Nathan asks. Everybody nods their heads silently.
"This afternoon, we had a skipper from the 3rd Generation. Three days before, we also had another skipper from the 4th Generation. And so on," Nathan explains. I lean back in my chair from boredom. I've known Nathan for a long time, ever since I was 11. My parents were killed by "the men" who are dressed in black. They've always killed Factors' parents ever since the war. When mine were killed, me and my older sister, Jaz, were saved by the Factors. Jaz chose to live with her friend instead of joining the Factors. She got all mad at me and we've never talked since. Anyway, Factors who are 12 and older get to collect the child(ren) if the parents who were killed by the men. Nathan's first children were me and Jaz, and he went along with his dad, the president of the Factors. Also...
"Zack, what do you think about this?" Nathan's voice cuts out my thoughts.
"What?" I ask.
He sighs.
"About the..."
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
The sound replays in my head.
"Let's get prepared!" Emma shouts.
"Get Carry!"
"Get gear!"
"Hurry!"
We bolt out of the meeting room and Nathan yells, "Zack, Emma, hop in my car! I'll pick up Carry!" Emma and I look at each other and then run out to Nathan's beat up, red truck. I sit shotgun while Emma hops in the back. Less than a minute later, Nathan climbs in the front, while little Carry goes in the back with Emma.
"Address?!" Nathan asks.
"Ummmmm... 114 Royal Street," Emma says.
"Jacee, take me to 114 Royal Street," Nathan says to Jacee, our transporter.
Suddenly, everything goes white. In a few seconds though, I see the blue sky again as Nathan's truck parks in front of a huge stone house.
"Let's go! Don't waste any time!" Nathan yells.
We rush up to the front door and smash it open. People could never see us or things we do because we have a special border. We break through the door and hear screams upstairs. We pound up the stairs and follow the screams. Nathan opens the door that the screaming is coming from and throws a knife at one of the Men and it finds itself buried in his chest. He sinks onto his knees and dissolves into a puddle of ash. Emma throws her lighting-shaped sword as it sinks into the other Man's head. As the first, he becomes ash. Carry opens the door further and we find the owner of the violent screams.
