Although the love Chongyun feels for Xingqiu is mutual, it is unclear if they are in a romantic relationship or are just good friends. Their interactions are often filled with playful banter and teasing, which could be interpreted as either romantic or platonic.

Xingqiu was preoccupied with reading his novel as usual when Chongyun abruptly appeared behind him, startling the amber-eyed man.

"Hey, Xingqui!" Chongyun waved.

Xingqiu sighed as he glanced behind him to see the figure of Chongyun, then turned back to his novel.

"Greetings, Yun. "You surprised me quite a bit there."

The exorcist proceeded towards his friend and settled down beside him, and then, at that exact moment, the traveler and Paimon had teleported to Qingce Village, greeting the two blue-haired men as Aether proceeded to complete his commission.

Chongyun rested his head on Xingqiu's shoulder and closed his eyes as the two men watched the traveler and Paimon leave. Xingqiu gently stroked Chongyun's soft blue hair and muttered something under his breath that Chongyun couldn't make out.

"Huh?" Chongyun reacted, not being able to comprehend what had just been said to him.

A slight 'nothing' was heard from Xingqiu as he was immersed in his novel once again. Chongyun furrowed his eyebrows and asked Xingqiu to repeat what he had said, but the latter remained silent, lost in his book.

After a few moments of awkward silence, Chongyun shrugged and decided to let it go. Knowing that the bookworm wasn't going to finish reading his novel anytime soon, Chongyun yawned as he slowly started to drift off, watching the sun set.

He closed his eyes and allowed himself to be lulled to sleep by the sound of pages turning.

When he woke up, the sun was already setting, and he realized that he had slept through most of the afternoon.

After taking everything into account, he soon realized that Xingqiu, his friend who had been with him earlier, was nowhere to be found, and he wondered if he had left him there while he was sleeping.

After preparing to leave the place, Xingqiu suddenly appeared behind Chongyun, scaring the man as Xingqiu giggled behind him. Chongyun suddenly felt his face flush a bit after hearing his friend's laugh, noticing how cute it was until he eventually snapped back to reality and then glared at Xingqui.

Chongyun couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed at how easily he got scared, but he couldn't stay mad at his friend for long.

He chuckled and shook his head, relieved that Xingqiu was safe and sound. Chongyun then decided to ask Xingqiu where he had been all this time and what he had been up to.

"Oh, I went to the library close by to get a few more books. I genuinely didn't anticipate you waking up so early." Xingqiu replied.

"I feel you already have enough books, Xingqiu."

As they began walking back home, Chongyun began eating one of his popsicles to keep his body temperature stable as Xingqiu blathered about his novel.

"Would you like a popsicle?" asked Chongyun, while offering the treat to his friend.

"Hm, I'm willing to try one...thanks" replied the navy-blue-haired boy.

"Also, do you recall the book I was reading this afternoon? Yeah. It featured this one couple where the man ended up proposing to the woman he was so madly in love with, but when he got rejected, the man deci-"

Xingqiu was suddenly cut off when the other male placed a finger over his mouth, shushing him.

.

"Hush. I don't want to hear about the... weird... novels that you read. Sometimes I wonder where you even get these types of books." said Chongyun, giving Xingqiu the side eye.

"Don't you have any shame?"

Suddenly, Xingqiu's hands reached out to Chongyun's, making the poor boy jolt away and cover his face out of embarrassment.

Xingqiu laughed at the sight, thrilled at the reaction his little exorcist gave while getting elbowed.

"Hey! What was that for?" He chuckled.

Chongyun rolled his eyes sarcastically, his face still bright red and flustered, while Xingqui continued to giggle.

Out of the blue, Chongyun suddenly shoved his popsicle in Xingqiu's face, putting an end to his laughing. Xingqiu took it out, coughing a bit from the unexpected treat.

The two men share a laugh again before shortly parting ways. Xingqiu couldn't help but giggle a bit to himself before leaving with a giant grin on his face. The man knew he'd already fallen for Chongyun because the situation was one, he'd read about in a novel.

Chongyun's heart was beating rapidly, and his face was flushed, thinking about what happened. For the rest of the night as he twisted and turned in his bed. It wasn't good for Chongyun's body temperature to spiral out of control, but even his popsicles couldn't help with the heat.

Meanwhile, Xingqiu was already endorsed into the brand-new novels he bought, reading them until he yawned tiredly, placing in his bookmark. His last thoughts were of Chongyun, smiling with his smile, as he let sleep drift him away as he slept soundly through the night.
