Two
It had been three years since Natasha had been sent to pick up Lidah and take her back to the S.H.I.E.L.D base. Those years had consisted mostly of Lidah being sheltered and getting her health back to how a growing youth of her age should be, training in hand to hand combat, and Lidah personally working on figuring out and being able to use her side effects. At least, that's what she liked to call them, as nobody has been able to tell her specifically what they are or where they come from. Not even Doctor Bruce Banner. Lidah had met Dr. Banner during her second year with S.H.I.E.L.D. It was around the time that he was brought in for the Avengers initiative, and Director Fury suggested he take a look at her. She wasn't sure she liked the idea of that as it sounded like it would be like what the bad people otherwise known as HYDRA (or so she was told) had done to her. Although it turned out he just talked to her and discussed her condition.
Natasha and Lidah had grown surprisingly close, even though Natasha still wasn't one to express feelings very well. Clint Barton had also gotten quite close with Lidah, as he spent a lot of his time at the base. Director Fury had intimidated the young girl at first, but once she got to know the man she grew fond of him and saw that he only wanted to help. She learned these things with age, just as she learned more of herself and her abilities.
Overall she thought she was okay with the cards she'd been dealt considering her side effects. After working on them and testing them out for herself, she'd discovered that she could look forward in time to at least a week's length, and she could look at events back in time up to a month past. She also seemed to be able to slow down time, or maybe she herself just went a little faster than others, she wasn't too sure yet. Along with that she found that in moments she became overwhelmed with emotion, she would cause light to protrude from her back that almost seemed like wings, and although she has no clue how to control it, she has realized that when the wings appear her side effects are amplified.
Something Lidah didn't like to discover over growing up was that her appearance seemed to change, and not in the normal way that happens as you mature. As a child she had already had fair skin, blue eyes, and light blonde hair, but as she aged her skin became a milky pale on the verge of inhuman, her eyes had shifted to light blue with a grey tint, and her hair had begun growing a color so pale blonde it almost appeared white. These changes had stopped occurring around her sixteenth year, and now at seventeen she hadn't changed anymore. While those who knew her at S.H.I.E.L.D said her looks complimented her abilities, she hated them. They were just another side effect to her, albeit a negative one.
Lidah currently resided in a compact bedroom space in the base. The room was a plain white with a desk, dresser, single twin bed, a bathroom, and various pictures of that she'd accumulated over the years on the wall. Her favorite picture, framed and sitting on her desk was of her mother, father, and herself. It was one of the only things she had to remember them by aside from a delicate silver necklace with a charm of an angel silhouette. She would have gone back to her childhood house and gotten more of their things, but oddly enough she couldn't remember anything about it. She couldn't really remember anything about her childhood except the haunting moment of her parents' deaths. It was kind of ironic actually, she could remember her parents when they died, but not any time when they were alive. All she knew was that she loved them and they loved her. She didn't even have to know it, she could feel it.
A knock on the door broke her from her spiraling thoughts, and once she responded with an 'it's open', Natasha poked her head into the room.
"Are you ready for today, moja golubice?" She asked with as excited a smile as she could form, using the nickname Lidah had grown quite accustomed to from her. Though she would never admit it...
Although Lidah could speak almost perfect English (if you don't count her undeniable accent) compared to when she was first taken in, she very much appreciated Natasha's occasional use of her native language, as it supplied her with a faint feeling of nostalgia.
"Do you think I'm actually ready, Natasha? To travel with you and the Avengers to this mission?" Lidah's stomach had been filled with butterflies all night as she thought about going on her first somewhat mission. She'd already become acquainted with the other members of the team, aside from Thor as he seemed to always be away. It wasn't like she was actually going to be out on the field with the rest of them though, so she didn't know why she was that nervous.
"Of course you're ready! I personally helped prepare you for times like these, so I feel a little insulted." Natasha pouted jokingly. With the serious look on Lidah's face she added, "Really, Lidah, you can do this. All you have to do is ride with us and see if you can see anything that's going to happen so we can be prepared. We're gonna handle all the action, okay?"
"Yes ma'am," the girl said with a nod of her head, as if putting her mind in the right gear.
With one final nod, Lidah stood from the bed and followed the Black Widow out of the safety of her bedroom for her first taste of action.
