It was a Thursday afternoon at my high school, East Doncaster Secondary College. I was having a maths lesson. Maths was my least favourite subject, and still is, but at least I got to sit next to my best friend Piper. Right now she was fiddling with the eagle's feather in her dark brown braid (I know, I know - both of us wear feathers in our hair). Our other friend, Hazel, was sitting behind me, redoing her long, curly brown hair in a ponytail.
Today my blond hair was in a messy bun streaked with one of those long feather decorations. I took a lot of time doing and redoing it before school, but it was worth it, because I got lots of compliments from my friends this morning.
Anyway, back to the present. We were having a maths test. I heard the door open behind me. I turned around. Standing in the doorway was perhaps the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen.
He had artistically ruffled bronze hair, shiny and wavy. His strange, gold-brown eyes darted back and forth across the classroom. I felt as if I'd been struck by lightning when his gaze settled on me.
The boy was tall, but not too tall, and muscular, and had tanned skin. He was apparently new to the school, because our teacher, Miss Johansen, introduced him as Jay Redwood. Unfortunately, he had to sit at the back of the classroom where the only free seat was. I hoped he would get to sit next to me. Oh well.
