season 1, episode 1 : first day

third person :

august 27, 2000

the start of seventh grade would begin tomorrow. for three girls especially this was a big deal. maya ishii-peters and anna kone, two of these girls were sitting on the phone, excitingly talking about the new school year over the phone.

"oh my god na seventh grade..." maya states, shocked by her own words.

"i know! it's gonna be amazing!" anna replies, just as excited as her best friend.

anna scribbles in her yearbook, drawing a line from maya's photo to hers and writes "BFF" as the two continue to talk about the new school year and all that's soon to come.

"who else is in homeroom with us? like... is sam?" maya says, attempting to bring up her not-so-secret crush.

"oh my good he wishes...he wants you so bad it's crazy"

"no na never in a trillion years, that's disgusting! like hell no!" maya replies, pretending to be disgusted by the idea.

deep down, maya had feelings for sam and she knew this but for now, she would deny them. there was a pause in the girl's conversation before anna spoke up,

"do you think alex is still dating heather?"

quick to reassure her friend maya said, "no absolutely not! i heard they broke up because heather gave a handjob to both brant j. and dustin l. this summer,"

"wait what?!"

"yeah."

"that hoe bag!" anne said, trying her hardest to suppress the smile that was already forming through her "disgusted" face.

"such a slut" maya said quickly before changing the subject, "oh my god and also, i heard connie m. grew double d's her last night at camp"

"that's so f-ed up. how is that even possible?" anna asked, confusion written all over her face.

"i don't know it like happened in the middle of her sleep"

it was clear that both girls were a bit clueless when it came to puberty and they were a little too gullible when it came to rumors. nonetheless, anna quickly drew sagging boobs on connie m.'s yearbook photo and the two girls continued their conversation.

"that's so unfair that happens to people i wish that was me..."

"i know!" maya irritatingly said.

there was another short pause before maya spoke up, enlightening anna with more gossip.

"i heard there's a new girl going to our school and she's like, so hot."

anna's face slightly dropped when she heard this and her heart's pace quickened. she didn't need any new girl taking alex from her, especially since she was so close to getting with him.

"well...you know how quickly rumors spread. shouldn't believe like everything mai," anna said, stuttering through her sentence.

maya could sense her best friend's discomfort at this "new girl" and glad she wasn't the only one.

"yeah, like totally.." maya added, unease laced throughout her voice as well. she then sighed composing herself so she'd be able to ask anna this next question.
